Nokia/MSFT launching Windows Phone on Sept 5th!

What is sure to be one of the most exciting products for Q3/Q4, Nokia and MSFT will be pulling the wraps off their new WP8 devices on Sept 5th, at 0930 EST in NYC.

Exciting? I wouldn't call it exciting. I would call it Microsoft's and Nokia's last chance in the mobile market. I think words like 'worriment' or 'uneasiness' would be more a propos.

I ended up with an S3 for my main phone ( got mah work iPhone 4S, I like it to ), but from what I've been hearing of WP8, I might just switch, again.

I think for reasons I'm to lazy to list, Windows Phone might be a big winner

I haven't played with it too much, but from what I've seen windows phone looks pretty good and if I ever decide to switch away from iOS would probably be what I'll get. It'll be interesting to see what's shown at this event.

I'll look forward to seeing what they offer. I still have fears Elop is slowly destroying Nokia but this could be the moment that it is all turned around.

I agree. I really wish that Nokia had designed a similar phone style as the Lumia but sporting Android ICS or JB.

Nokia have always for the most part made fantastic hardware, I've just found their software lacking for years.

I also thought that a combination of great Nokia hardware and a good Android release like ICS or JB would be fantastic...it just won't happen for the foreseeable future...

At least Microsoft's mobile OS isn't an obvious, cheap Google/Android-esque knock-off of Apple's iOS.

Kudos for Microsoft for actually developing something different, something intriguing!

I can't wait to see what they offer. I don't have any issues with android, but for me WP is a more pleasant user experience. WP8 will hopefully address some of the small issues I have with WP7. I don't expect WP8 to be a huge hit immediately. If Microsoft has 10% marketshare at the end of 2013 they will be doing well imo.

MS has to fully acknowledge markets other than the US for them to even get close to grabbing 10% of the market. I.e. no half-arsed Bing integration outside of the States, the same Map features and so on. If Google can put the work in to keep non-US markets happy, so can MS (and Apple, for that matter). Although I will say Google needs to get cracking on Google Music outside the US, they've been slack there.

I really want them to do well, Windows Phone is a great product and should get more attention than it does, but I don't want to get a product from a company that will treat my region as an afterthought. This is Microsoft's chance to impress those outside of the US- give us feature and service parity!

Although I will say Google needs to get cracking on Google Music outside the US, they've been slack there.

It's dead easy to get for anyone outside the US who serious wants it. You just use a free proxy to sign up and once accepted you can then access it from anywhere as normal.

I also don't think it has anything to do with Google being slack and everything to do with the music industry.

Exciting for people who like more options? Especially given WP8 has erased most of the crying (multi core chipsets, more ram, HD screens, SD card and mass storage support, improved multitasking, shared core with W8, NFC, and more). A WP8 lumia would definitely be a must buy for me if it is the right size.

Yep. Also need BB10 and some others (firefox?) to join the party. RIM better deliver because more options = good for us all.

Let's be honest here. MSFT isn't going to let Nokia fail. They'll just keep pumping more and more money into Windows Phone until they force it to become a success. Nokia isn't going to topple. It's going to be held on life support by MSFT.

That's the deal with the devil that Nokia made when they accepted that new CEO, who is clearly a Microsoft agent.
