Nokia Siemens Networks (a joint venture of two companies who shall remain nameless and makes networking and telecoms equipment - not phones) bought a specific business unit of Motorola. Not quite the same, is it?

They're buying the MOBILE INFRA-STRUCTURE unit.
From the article you just linked: "The parts are aimed at different types of customers. The division that is being sold supplies wireless carriers such as Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel Corp. with the equipment they need to connect to cell phones."

This is not like they're buying the makers of Droid or anything. They're buying the makers of network towers for carriers. (a "small" maker, at that)
