Nokia is officially launching its very first Android devices, known as the X and the X+, on stage at its annual Mobile World Congress press conference. We were all taken aback by the second (and third) device (since only one leaked), so it's incredible to see Nokia make such a huge foray into enemy territory. The X will have a 4-inch, 840 x 480 IPS screen, 512MB RAM, 4GB of storage expandable storage via microSD slot and 3-megapixel camera, while the X+ sports the same specs but more RAM (768 MB) and an included 4GB microSD card.

Even Microsoft doesn't want to pay Microsoft?

I think it's interesting. They aren't coming to the US because Microsoft will be debuting the 525 and 8.1 in a few months, and they're pushing their platform hard here.

They're trying to compete with low end Android, which really dominates the smaller countries.

The specs are good. Not up to pair with our mid and high ends, but over there it's above the current crop of them.

I don't know if this is still up to date, but if the windows App Store still lacks many apps, this can be a good move to push Nokia while not pushing google, since the're not using any Google services.

A perfect strategy for MS..Ride on Android and use your internal design elements to "cover" your version of android, while your own OS Eco-system builds up...You can always part ways when Windows is ready to compete with android for long term contracts with OEM's.

I was hoping for something along the lines of a 1020 or 1520 running Kitkat, a Man can dream.... a Man can dream..

Would be interesting to see if users can root and flash a Gapps package. That would be the best of both Google and MS- Nokia

I expected better from Nokia. This was a bad try at forking AOSP with a laggy skin and outdated version of android that was not optimized for low end specs like kitkat is.

They could have done better.

Saw the Nokia X last night in display at the mall. A group of people were staring at it before I walked up to it. It was in green and cost abt $133. Not bad. Nice to see Nokia finally come around and make an Android phone. Wished Nokia made an Android sooner though. Samsung might never have been in this current position if Nokia never had that Microsoft trojan Stephen Elop banking on the wrong horse three years ago.

I know Nokia had never been big in the American market and they never bothered to market or bringing their best products there. But outside the US about 10-15 years ago, Nokia was THE BRAND for cell phones for the rest of the world. Esp here in this gadget crazy country called the Philippines, the texting and now selfie capital of the world. Nokia was everything to so many people the way Samsung and Apple are now. Maybe even bigger. Nokia once held 50-60% global marketshare. Even Samsung has managed only to capture 30-35% now.

Back in 2000, Apple was still nothing to people but a fruit or a company with unpopular products. Their iPod wasn't released yet. Samsung was still making second rate products compared to the Japanese. Google was still a baby. Sony, Microsoft, Nokia, and Motorola were still big. Now the tables have turned. I really do miss the Nokia from like 6-7 years ago with their 6500 Slide/Classic, E-series, and N-series phones with great cameras. And Nokia along with Motorola and RIM had some of the best reception (albeit high SAR) in the business.

I still like Google, Sony, and HTC as companies more than Motorola and Nokia, but the nostalgia in me does miss the latter pair's heyday when it came to durable hardware. The super durable Nokia 3360 and the Nokia N82 with Xenon flash are still two of my favorite phones of all-time. I still see some people carry around the Nokia N95 and Nokia N8.

I would love if Nokia can build an Android phone with the build quality of the N8. Just thinner and bigger screen. The anodized N8 was build like a tank like the iPod minis with Xenon flash to boot. And why not make a $50 Android smartphone while they are at it? Cheaper than the Lumia 520 and their Asha phones. I expect the Nokia X to go on sale for $60-$80 before Christmas like the Lumia 520 did last season. Nokia is going back to what they do best - make budget friendly phones with durable quality.

I miss the old Nokia but I welcome them now to the Android party even if they arrived way too late and are just using Android as a gateway to Microsoft services. Welcome to the Android family... Nokia X.
