Nokia's "Zoom Reinvented" Event

Rumors are of a Lumia device that has a camera like none other. Possibly taking the Pureview 808 Camera while making improvements to the software, lens, and algorithms.

Anyone absolutely excited for this? I am. I have a Lumia 710 and love it... but want to upgrade to a higher end device. I will keep a close eye on this event, if I am not absolutely blown away by the phone that is released I will just wait for the 5S in the fall.

Anyone else think they may go Nokia if the phone turns out to be a true competitor?

I like Windows Phone, but really, the ecosystem is sloppy and needs to be tightened and expanded.

Unless it's an Xray camera, no camera is going to sway me toward Windows Phone if MSFT doesn't improve the ecosystem.

Besides, if your only feature is a 41mp camera, but still lacking in every other feature, then it is doubtful you will sell much outside of Northern Europe. Kind of like how things are now.

I don't see why everyone goes on about the Windows Phone Marketplace. Yes, it doesn't have the amount of apps that iPhone has, all of the essentials are there. Plus, the quality of the apps is equal to that of iOS, unlike Android which has a bunch of half-baked ones.

Windows Phone is consistently growing and it really won't surprise me if it becomes a successful third option (Blackberry is done except in very select markets, imo). Nokia and Microsoft have really made great strides and are continuing to do so.

With a Nokia Windows Phone you know what you are getting. Great hardware with unique industrial design, a great camera at each price point, and a rock solid OS that looks great, but seems to lack the depth of the App Store, but still has the essentials and the Apps to match 95% of people's needs.

Just my opinion on the matter.

I am pretty sure that there are more than just 5% of the people that would be disappointed to buy a WP, only to find out there is no Instagram, no Dropbox, no Snapchat, no Seamless, no Flipboard, no Zinio, no LinkedIn, no Google Maps, no Pandora... The list of missing big name apps goes on and on.

Just my opinion on the matter. I find it ironic that Nokia touts their big megapixel camera, but very few ways to share pictures with people on the web. Again, I think more than just a few people would be bothered by this.

They're gonna announce the Nokia EOS, which'll probably be my next phone once it drops on Verizon. What's cool is besides the lossless digital zoom, they also added an optical zoom. Plus it has 920 guts, xenon flash, possibly a quad core processor. It'll end up replacing the 92X series as the flagship WP8 phone.

windows phones need more apps and features than a better camera (they already have the best camera phone). windowsphone is a great platform, it's different, it's stylish, but it doesn't have enough apps and features which pulls me away from it...

Some in the last 3 weeks, some more than 3 weeks ago. Ecosystem is not up to iOS/Android standards but is growing pretty fast.

Right now I think the best camera phone is a toss up between the Lumia 928 and the HTC One. Pureview Pro tech blows both of them away for everything except daytime macro shots (I think the HTC One wins on that). The Sony Honami, when it comes out, will probably take second place.

They stuck an optical zoom on the EOS without it drilling it a hole in your pocket like the S4 Zoom. If you use your phone to take a lot of pictures, it's hard not to be intrigued.

For me the problem with Windows Phone isn't the apps but missing functionality. I've been on Windows Phone two years but I've recently put my 8X up and started using my Rezound again. There aren't as many apps available, especially first party, but the app selection has been growing rapidly in the last 4-6 months. Realistically I don't think we can expect a platform with such a small market share to have a really outstanding selection of apps. My problem with Windows Phone is that features android phones and the iPhone have are being added extremely slow. I feel Microsoft has a really solid foundation to build on, but they are really dragging their heels.

I am actually selling my 920 as we speak. I love Nokia, and I think WP8 is really great, but it just isn't mature enough yet.

In a couple years, if MS really cares, I think WP8 (or whatever they will be calling it) could be a real contendor. So many things about the OS are great, but the dev community and MS need to get some things in order before I'll go back.

All that being said, I trust if anyone can put a killer camera in a sturdy phone, it's Nokia. Their hardware has always been unmatched in my opinion.
