unfortunately, yes, there is a difference.
So, I went ahead and got 4 sticks of "regular" heatsink equipped chips and stuck it in my mac.
Not good! Right from the get go. It boots and runs "fine", but temps on those sticks are constantly in the high 70's/low 80's compared with 50's/60's on the approved heatsink'd chips. End result? Fans constantly running at 800-1200rpm (vs. around 500 previously).
So, too anal? Maybe not... one of the beauties of the mac pro is the near dead silence...
So, it's back to ebay they will go... if anyone is interested in them soon, ping me and i'll cut you a deal!
