Phones Non-iPhone but focused on battery life (screentime)?

My fiancee need a new smartphone but doesn't want her iPhone any more. I am looking for a replacement, Android, Windows, no matter what, which has a great battery life.

Screensize should not exceed a current iPhone 4 / Galaxy Mini etc.

She is using mainly Mail / Browsing / Twitter and Facebook so requires a long screentime for 2+hrs train commutes.

Can someone suggest a smartphone with long battery life ? Don't care about performance right now, just screentime really.

I hate to say it, but I don't really know of an android phone with a 3.5" screen. The mini version of most phones is still 4"+

Droid maxx and apparently the moto x sound like they have the best battery life. Still bigger screens though. That is the trend. Although they are getting smaller again.
