Hello,
I was hoping someone would be able to help my out?
My wife uses an Iphone7 and we just recently bought a new hp laptop. We've tried to just connect the phone to the laptop and transfer everything she has this way but it wont work.
I myself have always owned an android phone so I dont have any experience or really any understanding of my was around an Iphone.
We want to take her pictures and videos off her phone and we are not sure what apple program we need to install and furthermore we are worried that when we try to sync her phone for the first time she will lose everything.
I've done some reading on other sites but they are poorly worded so I'm kind of leery about doing what they say, so if anyone could help that would be amazing!
Thanks for your time.

Have you looked into installing and using iTunes?

I'm think we might have installed that before. But I'm just worried that everything I've read it makes it sound like when you do a first time sync it deletes everything on your phone.

This happens when you sync a library to the phone, and sync just moves library that is on your computer to your device. If library is empty, it will be empty on your device as well.

Also, this happens with music and photos added with iTunes. Photos in Camera Roll are not affected in any way. If you have any doubts get an app like iMazing that doesn't sync the library in iTunes way, just regular drag&drop.

If you have a new HP laptop, you should be able to transfer the iPhone camera roll to the PC with just a USB cable. I believe this requires iTunes to be installed, but you won't actually use iTunes for the transfer.

1) Attach the iPhone 7 to the laptop with a USB cable.
2) This is critical - if the iPhone is locked, you must unlock it. You may also be asked if you trust this PC - you know the answer!
3) On the PC, go to "This PC > Apple iPhone > Internal Storage > DCIM > 100Apple" You then should see all the pictures and videos on the camera roll. Drag and drop them to the folder of your choice.

It's possible that "100Apple" will have a different name, but you get the point - drill down from "Apple iPhone" until you get to the camera roll.

Post back if this doesn't work.

Thank you for the help! I'm currently away from my computer right now but when I'm able to I will try this! Thank you again for the help.
[doublepost=1554067438][/doublepost]We tried using the import function in Microsoft photo but as soon as you try to import we just get an unknown error. I guess alot of people were having that problem when trying what we've tried!

I use the Windows Photo app to import photos from my iPhone. I've found it good enough that I've stopped using Adobe Photoshop Elements.

If you are able to get to the point where you can drag and drop photos from the iPhone, then Windows Photo should work, too.

BTW, the reason you need iTunes, even though you may not use it, is that Windows iPhone drivers are installed as part of the iTunes install.

What's the exact error message? Also just to confirm, you just drag&drop photos from DCIM/***APPLE folders, right?
