Looking for people’s opinions. It seems a comparatively high number of people in this forum bought the Max but decided they were not for them, and returned them. Would you buy if the only available stock was from a retailer with a no return policy on headphones? My purchase dilemma right now.

I wouldnt unless its below retail. Final sale is too much at this price imo.

Apple allows return of headphones, no reason needed. It's a premium product for Apple -- too much money to rely on guesswork, or a random employee response.
Find out (for sure) that Best Buy will (or will not) refund your money (perhaps a specific exception because it is an Apple-brand product), should you choose to return. (You may be able to do a direct return to Apple, but call AppleCare support for a good answer on that before you buy.)

Thanks. I’ll check it out with Apple and directly with Best Buy. They state it on their website that headphones can’t be returned.

And that’s why I chose to order from the Apple Store and not Best Buy, even though my order won’t arrive for 2 months. At this price, I want to be able to return them if any of the issues that have been raised about them (battery life, condensation, weight/comfort, even value at this price point) prove to be an issue for me.

This was my experience as well when looking into pretty much all Canadian retailers (local or chains) carrying the AirPods Max. A few retailers I talked to directly claimed their policy was made stricter due to COVID, although I was unable to find any official government policy to back up their dubious excuses as to why the change was enforced.

I found some local inventory in December (and I got a bit of a break on the cost), so decided to just chance it with one of the smaller chains. Worst case, I figured I'd sell it on Kijiji or FB Marketplace and try to break even while they were still hard to find in stores.

Yes i did, could only return if faulty, got them in 3 days and figured if i didn't like them would just sell on ebay.
