I had previously used AccountEdge for years, but Mac OS 10.15 broke their software. For a while, I just got by not updating the system software on that iMac until it died and needed to be replaced.
By then they had released a hack to run a modified version of the windows version in Mac OS in some kind of windows shell. That one still works but it's very very slow and clunky compared to mac native software, although it's only offered now as a monthly subscription.
My plan was to switch to Quickbooks, and I purchased a single-user license for Quickbooks for Mac 2020 but never set it up since we were too far into the year at that point and I figured it would be easiest to just start fresh and the beginning of the year.
Fast forward to now and as I'm setting my company file set up I discover that Intuit no longer sells one-time purchase licenses to their products as of Dec 12, 2021, and won't offer updates or support for the older products going forward.
Now I'm wondering if it's worth putting time into setting up Quickbooks to just use it until an OS update breaks it, or if there are any alternatives available.
I'm not interested in a subscription, and would really prefer the software to run locally as my office internet is slow and unreliable. Are there any options? This is for a small business. Thanks for any help.

Just adding my voice to this thread. I now run AccountEdge on a Windows virtual machine. I would love to hear about some options.

I do use Money Dance for my personal accounting, but it's not good enough for my business. I need AP/AR and other features.
