Noob AppleID Question

I just got a MBA, never owned an Apple product before.

I just downloaded ML using my Up-To-Date code. I haven't installed it yet.

When making my ID I just used my personal email that I use for everything. I rather use my more professional looking email address. It seems I would change it by going to the app store, click accounts and then edit my AppleID details, but is it safe to change my email now? Or will it cause problems when I try to install and use ML?

I'd go ahead and install ML first. You can change your Apple ID anytime.
