I got my iphone unlocked and jailbroken. I'm still running OS 3.0 and everythings been working great. SMS, MMS, Email and internet.

I've never done an upgrade while jailbroken/unlocked so I'm not sure what to do and the guides are really details to understand what to do..

Do I lose all my data like sms/mms?

I understand I have to start from a restore and then jailbreak and then unlock.
but that's it..

and also, when is the unlock for 3.1.2 projected to be out?

To be honest theres really no use in you updating...theres no killer feature in 3.1.2 and you're just better off staying on 3.0 unlocked. trust me your not missing out on anything.

if you really want to upgrade to 3.1.2, you'll have to use pwnage tool (mac) and create a custom firmware in order to preserve your baseband.

And yes when you restore you lose all that data

unlock for 3.1.2 right now is unknown when it'll come out

Yea, I didn't see any need to upgrade when 3.0.1 came out either..even with the sms exploit thing.

Maybe I'll just hold off until they do something useful.

thank you.

*sorry, another quick question. Is there an app (mac, window) that can backup my sms text? Syphone doesn't work with new OS versions.. i can't seem to find anything else that works.. **

The only way I know that you can backup your sms data is backing up your phone through iphones, and then restoring from a backup after a restore.

I'm pretty sure theres a way you can also ssh into the phone and find the data but I haven't ssh'd into my phone in a while so i forgot where things are :/
