I am sorry I had to resort to posting a new thread on a possibly already answered question. However I have done a lot of research and can't seem to find an answer.

I am planning on getting a 15 inch unibody MBP with a 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT. My 3 year old gaming Dell xps laptop has a 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce go 7900 GTX.

Is the 9600 better? If so by slightly how much? Thanks.

Thanks guys. I dont mind if they 9600 isn't a lot better than my old 7900. I just want a portable notebook that can play some games and do multimedia work once in a while. :]

It seems the GeForce Go 7900 GTX and the 9600M GT are fairly evenly matched cards. I wouldn't really expect anymore in terms of gaming performance as per:

9600M GT - http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-9600M-GT.9449.0.html
Geforce Go 7900 GTX - http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-Go-7900-GTX.2131.0.html

yeah, it looks to be about 10-15% more powerful, really wouldn't expect much of an improvement real world wise. But I am sure the MBP is way more portable then your xps. ;)
