Noob VMWare Fusion Question

After looking into Fusion I found that you could use VMWare Converter http://www.vmware.com/products/converter/ to convert a physical Windows machine into a virtual machine and then run this with either Fusion or VMWare Server etc and so I follwed the wizard and converted my machine into a virtual disk and to see if it worked I went to run it in VMWare Server installed on my PC and after booting it said that Windows had to be activated.
My question is, is this a hard process and can it be done more than once eg. activating it in Server and then running that same image in Fusion?

Windows requires activation if there's a major hardware change. Moving your machine from a hardware to a virtual machine would be enough to require activation.

As long as you're still within your licensed number of installations you can activate it for usage in VMWare.

I'm not privy on how an OEM license tied to hardware will work if you export it to a virtual machine off of its original hardware.

I paid the full $299 for Windows XP Professional for this very reason. I originally orderd the OEM copy for a cheap $139 from Newegg, but got cold feet b/c I knew of the OEM restrictions and wasn't clear if reinstalls/etc were going to cause activation flags.

Maybe I overspent, but I guess I'm safe now. I've already had to activate Windows 3 times...I'd hate to have MSFT say I couldn't reinstall.
