Nooby question: does using pwnagetool unlock & fix baseband?

So I accidentally used plain old quickpwn to install 2.2.1 on my iphone 1g. Did this upgrade the baseband permanently? But then I used pwnagetool to make my own firmware and used bootneuter and it says it downgraded the baseband. So lets say I took the phone to europe right now and stuck in a prepaid SIM card, would i be able to make calls? If not, what else do I have to do?

As it's a 1G, you don't have a problem.

Let iTunes upgrade the phone to 2.2.1, then follow this tutorial:
