I see conflicting info on if or how NordVPN works on M1 Macs. Some say it works only under Rosetta, some say no, and I can’t find any info on the NordVPN website.

So I don’t know if I should sign up for their service, since I have an M1 MBP. It’s been a few months, so I imagine their app must work natively by now, no?

NordVPN does not offer a Silicon app at the moment and their standard app doesn't show in the app store that I see. I have been using SurfShark. It is still Intel version but, it has been running well. Private Internet Access isn't listed in the M1 app store either that I saw.

It works under Rosetta! Slightly slower on an M1 mini than under Intel but no crashes!

See what I mean? One says “works under Rosetta”, the other says “no app available for Silicon macs” :)

But seriously, thank you guys! I’m just trying to decide if I should try to get NordVPN or not. I heard good things about SurfShark, but I’m trying to avoid any “five eyes” based vpns, so I don’t know.

Anyhow, does “works under Rosetta” mean... what? Basically, I’m wondering if working under Rosetta involves exposing any vulnerability that wouldn’t be there if it was native.

What does "five eyes" mean?

At the moment, I am logged into my standard Mac account. The attached pic shows the two nonstandard NordVPN apps listed in the Silicon store. I have an account with Nord and the standard app I used for the Intel version doesn't show in the app store. I probably could look for it under past purchases but, since Surfshark showed and offered a good deal, I went ahead. I am getting better speeds than I previously did with PIA or Nord. All 3 are good services.
