Normal Battery for MBP?

theres a couple things i want to ask about my battery using the attached image as specs.

1) ive had my MBP for only 2 months, why does it say 5 months old?
2) Is my amount of cycles pretty normal or is it high/low
3) Is it normal for the maximum charge now compared to original charge to go down?
4) Ive only done 1 callaberation (complete discharge of battery power) should i have more?

anyones you can answer will be helpful.

Every battery will progressively lose its maximum capacity over time, and on average in 3 - 4 years need to be replaced

1. I'm not sure why the "Age of your Mac" says 5 months because I don't know where CoconutBattery gets that info from, but my first guess would be the manufacturing date of the battery.

2. For two months of regular use, I would say 32 is a good number. No need to worry about that.

3. The nature of lithium-ion rechargeable batteries is that they lose battery capacity over time. 97% original battery capacity could be considered normal for two months of use depending on environment conditions and charge cycles. But yes, it is natural for the battery to lose charge capacity over time.

4. Apple recommends performing a Battery Calibration every 1-3 months, depending on how frequently you store or use the laptop. If you store the laptop for periods of time without use frequently, they recommend calibration about every month.

i have the same issue. my blackbook is exactly 3 weeks old today and now my current battery capacity (4858 mAh) is down to 93% from its original capacity (5200 mAh). my battery load cycle is only 12. i have drained the battery like 4 or 5 times. heres the coconut screenshot:

i also notice that my battery only last between 2 to 3.5 hours. bluetooth is off, wireless always on, external wired keyboard and wired mouse. most of the time, im just surfing the net like downloading apps and shopping for accessories, and installing/testing apps.

is my batt performance normal? thanks.

coconutBattery gets the age from the serial number. The manufacturing week is imbedded in it. Did you buy it from non-Apple retailer? It could have been sitting on a shelf for 3 months before you got it.

That looks a little low. You say you have drained it but did you follow the calibrating procedures (link posted above)?

honestly, i really dont know anything about battery calibration. i just wait for my macbook to turn off by itself and goes to sleep and then i just plug the magsafe adaptor to recharge it.

Calibration of your battery:
(You have most of it right)

1) From a full fresh charge to 100%, unplug the power supply.
2) Use the computer until it goes to sleep on its own (battery is pretty much exhausted)
2) Let it stay in sleep mode for 5 hours (more is okay, less is not)
3) Recharge to 100%

Repeat the above procedure once ever few months.

that one i didnt do. will try it today. i will let it sleep overnight after the battery is exhausted and will recharge it in the morning. hope it gets back close to 5200 mAh. thanks.

i just did the battery calibration and i regain a +5 in my max battery capacity but it is not that much. still 93% compared to the original capacity.

should i wait a few weeks and do some calibration more before calling applecare? thanks.

The calibration run should have brought it back to reporting accurately (or close, as it does run on an estimating system). Although I suspect that the battery is fine it wouldn't hurt to give Apple a call just to check.

One other item that you could try is iStat (it's a widget downloadable from Apples website, downloads section) iStat has a battery reporting section as well, it may show a slightly different number.

its been more than 3 weeks since my last post and since then, my battery capacity was stuck to 93%. phoned apple yesterday and i got my replacement (brand new battery) today!
