You probably know that only the yellow connector carries the video (the red and white are stereo audio connectors), and just to clarify this is known as composite video, which is distictly different from component video, where the image (luma) component and color (chroma) components are separated. There are converters that you could use to convert the TV's component output to composite, like this one, but they're expensive.

There are other (less expensive means) of getting component video down to a composite signal (and scaled appropriately from the 720p the aTV will be throwing out).

The first that comes to mind would be one of the Samsung satellite recievers... with a built in HD tv tuner, and multiple ins/outs (including a scaled 480i output via composite, that's always active, so you can drive a hi-def display and an analog tv at the same time). It's a neat little package, and the OTA HD tuner and other inputs work w/o a dish subscription.

They go for something like 60 bucks on eBay, give or take. And it will allow you to watch OTA broadcasts after the 2009 analog shut-down, if you watch anything over-the-air...

i run component vid cables from appletv to an a/v receiver and from receiver to tv.


some tv's have multiple comp tv inputs. even better, if your tv has hdmi port it will connect easily

My 5 year old CRT TV thankfully hand component on it. Problem fixed

Is your TV widescreen? Although Apple says TV only works with widesceen TV's, it's not strictly true. See this post for an explanation I gave earlier about what you can expect.
