normal fan speed?

I am wondering, I hae a new SR macbook pro (2.4 ghz) and as soon as I turn it on (i.e., after sleep for 8 hours) the fans are at 2000 rpm (according to istatNANO) with Temp listed as 36 C. I am wondering if these are normal stats and if anyone could tell me what they get on their comparable systems. Thanks folks, I appreciate it!

The fans should not be on at those temperatures. Do the fans stay on or do they shut off after a minute or two? Either way having the fans come on when waking up after sleep is not normal. Call Apple support and see what they recommend. Could you post back with Apple's response?

Huh? 1600 RPM is the lowest possible speed of the MacBook fan.

The MacBook Pro fans should always be on and 1,600RPM to 2,000RPM is perfectly normal for that sort of temperature.

The first few releases of the MBP, pre C2D, were default at 1000rpm. Along came C2D and they raised it to 1600 and gave it new fans. Then came later versions of the C2D and they were even hotter and to compensate they raised it a bit more. also it varies a few hundred rpm per laptop depending on how it was built. 2000 is higher than most but just barely. My CD MBP runs at 3500rpm and has for 8months or so.

However my week 19 macbook was quiet the last one was very loud.......my sony is super quiet

What is the normal operating temperature? I've been working in Word, email, Safari for a few hours and I'm at 64 C. (C2D Santa rose, 2.4 Ghz by the way)?

i run my fans at 3000 for my MBP using smcFanControl
