Apple would tell users if charging via USB or AC Adaptor would harm the battery. As a matter of fact, they wouldn't even produce an... "Apple Branded AC Adaptor that says on the box that it is compatible with the iPad" ... if they knew it was harmful for the battery. So I would come to the conclusion that... "It makes no difference if you charge via USB or AC Adaptor."
