Which one should i install on my XP section on my MBP?

I heard some bad things about nortin but i like teh feel more then macafee but some people say macafee is much better.

Is there a Windows front-end for ClamAV, actually, like ClamXAV? Besides the issues with these AV programs sometimes screwing things up, first, Clam is free and OSS, and yet good (it's the built-in AV in OS X Server!), and second, it breaks the cycle of supporting the companies that invent security crises to sell products and then act slowly when real security crises arise. Sorry, that was surprisingly bitter, even to me.

But ... ClamAV front end for Windows? Anyone?

Sure, if you want to crash your machine use Norton. I'd stay as far away from both of those as I could get. I have used AVG (Free version) for years and it works great for me. It has caught things that I am sure that Norton would never have seen, and it seems to be updated for often than Norton. McAfee has always crashed my Windows machines, plus it is such a resource hog. Just get AVG and be done with it.

AVG is a good program, like danny_w said, I prefer Avast Antivirus. It is also free and uses hardly any resources. On my computer and all computers I build and repair for people I put on Avast. http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

STAY AWAY FROM ANY AND ALL NORTON PRODUCTS!!! They will cause you nothing but headaches in particular their Firewall and Systemworks.

For your firewall install Zonealarm Standard. It is free and works great. Be sure to not choose pro or anti-virus.

One last thing dump internet explorer and use firefox. IE is the gateway to Malware and Viruses.

This may sound a bit wacky, but I actually bought OneCare Live from Microsoft for my iMac, and plan to switch the Dell over when my McAfee license expires. I have come to hate both Norton and McAfee with a passion, and didn't want to experiment with AVG or anything else.

The biggest problem I have with McAfee now is that about half the time it needs to be manually enabled after a reboot. Leaving the machine unprotected for quite a while... Norton has just become a buggy, resource hungry system hog.

I'm rarely in Windows, but it doesn't seem too bad compared to Norton at work or McAfee at home, and I only have 512 MB in my iMac!

The only thing is that it's quite annoying with it's little bubbles down in the system tray since I reboot into Windows rarely it comes up and says "Hey! I'm out of date!".

What he said - either AVG or Avast.

ZoneAlarm will piss you of for the first couple of days while it learns what apps you want to enable to connect to d'internet, but once it knows it's fantastic.

Also the usual AdAware, Spybot etc.

I downloaded firefox before I installed XP . I never use IE. Thanks for all the advice i think i will try avast and/or avg and stick with the one i like best.

I never use antivirus software as they generally balls up your computer, have more nag screens and stuff than any of the crap that could infect you and also have a tendancy to make a fast copmuter run like a 5 year old pc...

They also dont stop spyware etc...

What I do use is adaware personal, for spyware - though it sometimes doesnt work either.

i also use Trend House Call as its free and on the net so you just run it and load it up when you need it, and it also is always upto date.

Eh, still, it's rather risky.
