I have a 2017 Mac Book Pro and made the HUGE mistake of installing Norton 360 onto it. I only did it because I bought it for my wife's PC and thought I would try it as I could install it on up to 5 other devices. My Mac Book has OS Catalina 10.15.7.

Anyway, I am trying to open Norton 360 by clicking on the app icon and all I get is a pop up window which says 'pending'. The green progress bar is already showing the full length of the window. But this does not go away and Norton won't open. I have to quit Norton to get rid of it. Unless I can open it, I am unable to choose an option to uninstall it.

Any suggestions?

Force quit Norton and then look up the uninstall instructions on their website. Use your Apple menu to force quit. Norton 360 on a Mac is a virus!

Ok, I got past that problem and managed to get the app to open and clicked on uninstall. It started working then it encountered a problem. The app is still there and when I click on it it says, 'Norton 360 cannot be opened because of a problem'. Any other way to try and get this thing off my computer?

Try rebooting your Mac as that will shut Norton down. Norton 360 installs itself so that it automatically runs whenever you startup the machine. You might have to use a file finding app to delete whatever Norton installed.

Anyway, here's Norton's instructions on how to uninstall:

If that doesn't work for you, download this free program: "EasyFind.app" and run it to find all instances of the Norton stuff and then delete all of it.

Don't try to use Spotlight to find the files as Spotlight doesn't work as well as EasyFind.

Thankyou. I installed EasyFind and found all the Norton/Symantec files and deleted them. However, to uninstall, I have to be able to open up the Norton app to get the uninstall option. That's the problem I am having now. Unable to open it to uninstall. I'm guessing that by simply deleting files will not uninstall the software.

If you found all the Norton files and removed them, you should be okay. Just open your Applications folder and then drag the Norton 360 file to the trash and empty the trash.

You don't need to open Norton to do that.

That all seems to have worked. I will keep an eye on it and see how it goes. Thankyou for your help!

Having the same problem as you. Now I wonder if I can still have the regular Norton Security suite that has been paid for? What to do for security now? Try to reinstall?

I'm not really tech-minded so not sure what those messages mean. If you put them into Google search you can usually find the answer. Regarding Norton itself I wouldn't use it at all with any of your Apple products. Apple is pretty secure as it is and Norton just screws everything up. To be honest, I never like Norton when I had a Microsoft many years ago. It puts so many files into your system it was nothing but a headache for me. I should have learned my lesson the first time.

on the land line mr. smith.
This is coming up.. have no idea what to do or if this is real.
The default interactive shell is now zsh.

To update your account to use zsh, please run `chsh -s /bin/zsh`.

For more details, please visit https://support.apple.com/kb/HT208050.
Nothing to worry about, just a change based on the OS installed. The shell is just the command line interface, and there are several options in the Unix world (MacOS is built on a Unix foundation). It's kinda like the Unix version of the Finder...if we could choose between several different Finders.

Millions use Macs with no AV software. If you feel compelled to have something there are options out there. One of the best free options Malware Btyes (free version). While it is not a full AV suite, it doe find and clean the most common mission on Macs: Malware. Just be aware that while it may nag you to buy...you can run the free version forever.

I used to recommend the free version of Sophos Home, but last I checked, it was a bit of a resource hog on MacOS 11. Hopefully, Sophos gets good again on the new/current Mac Oses.

AVG has a free and paid Mac tool too...but I have not tested it on any MacOS 11 machines.
