Well, I just got Norton Utilities 8.0 for my mac.
It's a G4 933Mghz machine running OS 10.3.2.

I installed the software but it doesn't list my harddrive.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled it after booting from the CD-ROM and running Disk Doctor.
Disk Doctor found a lot of problems and supposedly fixed them. I ran Optimizer and took care of that.
But it still won't list my harddrive!
I booted from CD-ROM again and ran Disk Doctor and found more problems. WTF? Didn't catch them the first time around?
I ran LiveUpdate and updated the software that's installed and nothing.
Is Techtool Pro any better than f*cking Nortons?

There is another post in this forum concerning something called "Journaling" that is set to on in OS Panther as a default. I don't remember all the tech stuff but what the bottom line is that with that on, defrag apps and others may not run correctly. You may want to investigate that aspect further. I have Norton Utilities 7.0 and AntiVirus 8.0 for my G3 running OS 10.2 and I use at for my work computers (G3s) running 9.2 and I have no problems.

Good Luck

KINDA sucks?

Norton + Macintosh = Bad News.

If you run Norton it will find problems. Always. If you never run Norton your Mac will still live a long happy life--maybe longer than if you did run Norton. I consider it wasted money. Wait until you have a problem that you can't fix with Disk Utility or other built-in apps, and then buy something stronger.

Kind-of sucks? Is that like being kind-of pregnant? It sucks. It has for a long time. There are better options for pretty much every offering from Norton, and I would suggest using most of them over Norton's version at the drop of a hat. The install CDs, however, make excellent drink coasters. :D

TechTool is much better then Nortons.

I ran Nortons 5 times in a row...

One of those times they found that the finder was 'in need of repair'
Me: Oh... okay fine.

:reboot:
KERNAL PANIC
Me:... NORTON!!!!

It will always find problems.

I deleted all of the traces on Norton... yet whenever I load a CD... Norton SOMEHOW comes up and trys to scan the CD...

Arg...

what the hell is it scanning for?

NOTHING.

Get TechTool, DiskWarrior... Drive 10.

Anything.

Run away from Norton. Run.
