I have a Mid-2010 MacPro running 10.14.6 with the latest updates. When I attempt to download any app from the App Store (I'm signed into with my Apple ID) the cloud icon never stops spinning. When I enter my Apple ID and password into Messages it says - Could not sign in to iMessage. An error occurred during activation. Try Again.

The MacPro is seen in my trusted devices when I log onto icloud.com. I have removed previously but that didn't help.

Any suggestions on how I can get these services working is appreciated.

A couple of days ago I had an upgrade to an app indicated and when I tried to go to the app store, got a blank and then tried to log in and that was bad. Finally just fiddling around and a reboot ...it worked. I have zero clue that anything I did on my side was relevant to it starting to function properly. Very odd.

Thanks, phrehdd. I have restarted a few times but still no love. I also reformatted the drive and installed a fresh copy of Mojave without any good news.

No sure if this is your issue. Worth to try anyway.

Thank you, b9826790. I will try that later tonight and let you know if that helps.

This happened to me perhaps a year or so ago, and then I was able to get it to stop about 6 months ago (so I a little hazy on exactly what I did). Short answer, I think I reset the nvram (the 4-fingered thing at restart).

Previous to that several non-essential things (like Messages) hadn't worked in awhile (longer story). But when I could retrieve updates, or login to the App Store I tried a few things. I'm pretty sure that's what did it. I may have logged out of the store, too. And may have updated to whatever the latest OS was at the time. At any rate, everything started working again.

Yup, resetting PRAM is a standard "iMessage and Facetime won't log in" fix.

Here's the thing - I know I did this several times after I first noticed that Messages wasn't working. This was at time of extensive "brain surgery" on my cMP, and I reset the NVRAM after thing like new cards/positions on the PCIe bus, CPU, memory, and so on. I wasn't so worried about Messages on my cMP as my phone and laptop were right next to it. But when I couldn't update from the App Store, that was different. Addressing that, which I believe was NVRAM, also had the nice side effect of activating Messages again.

Thank you for all of your help. After doing nothing more, I received a notification on one of my other Mac's confirming that Messages was activated on another computer. Very strange but both Messages and App store now work.
