Not able to log in to primary email account

New issue with El Capitan today. I'm not able to log in to my primary email account. No issues with the account as I can get mail on other Macs and iOS devices. The other Macs are not running El Cap.

Any suggestions? The error message is not able to verify account name or password. Both are correct. Setup was from Time Machine.

You have one of two problems:
1. You have no connection to the email server. Either the server is offline or has connection problems. (not El Cap related)
2. You're using the wrong username and password. (not El Cap related)

Since your other Macs and iOS devices are able to connect, I'd say option number 2 is most likely. Double check your username and password. If you really think they are correct, I'd suggest you open System Preferences > Internet Accounts and delete that mail account. Then recreate it. By the way, when you're in Mail, open Window > Connection Doctor. Does it help?

Per chabig's possibility 2: 2b, maybe need to generate a new app-specific passcode if you are using 2-factor authentication on your mail account. I've had that issue pop up in the past out of the blue, and it might have been after upgrading to El Capitan (memory a little hazy re: when that last occured for me).

Thanks. I was playing around with the email. Incoming server on the El Cap Mac had all info disappear. I reentered and it seems to be working now.

I made another account [same name, p-word for a just in case] I do think it's El Cap as there are no issues on ML Macs or iOS 5, iOS6, iOS8 devices.

So now I have two of the same accounts. I'll delete the duplicate account if the original remains stable. Thanks.

I still think Apple needs to reduce the bloat in the software. Thinner product line, thinner OS, no more bendy hardware
