Do you have any 3rd party drivers, such as Paragon NTFS installed? Google searching tells me this error isn't specific to Big Sur but can be caused by the Paragon driver.Looking forward to next update fix
Thanks for that. I have now installed "tuxera", and can see all my drives.Do you have any 3rd party drivers, such as Paragon NTFS installed? Google searching tells me this error isn't specific to Big Sur but can be caused by the Paragon driver.

Without knowing what kind of file you have and what app is trying to open, nobody can help.Yes, it is unrelated, I put it out there incase some else has the same problem after Sur update. Downloaded a file from net
Do you also have a 3rd party disk driver of some sort installed? This is hardly a new problem. Starting back in Sierra none of my Macs would recognize my external HDDs. They would, however, recognize thumb drives. I haven't tried either since installing BS (unfortunate abbreviation), but I will shortly to see if the issue has been fixed or expanded.
edit: I just checked both my external HDDs and my thumb drives. The thumb drives mount, however, the external drives STILL are not recognized by the OS.
Nope; never have.Do you also have a 3rd party disk driver of some sort installed?
And no errors when connecting the drives?Nope; never have.
No errors at all. When I connect thumb drives (USB sticks) they mount just fine. When I connect the external HDDs I get no message whatsoever. The drive powers up (and the light comes on) but it doesn't mount—not seen in Disk Utility or using the terminal commands—it's as if the drive isn't connected. And no errors when connecting the drives?
