i dont know if this was another "stupid" question of me.
i just read the email notification from Apple of my order of a iPod nano and a Mac Pro. in that, they clearly states "These Products Licenced by the United States for Ultimate Destination - Canada and may not be exported without prior written consent from Apple
Canada Inc.
"

en francais: "Ces produits possèdent un visa des États-Unis spécifiant comme
destination finale - le Canada, et ils ne peuvent être réexportés sans
le consentement écrit préalable d'Apple Canada Inc.
"

What the hell does that mean? Im not allowed to sell them, say, on eBay, unless i get permissions from Apple Canada? Police are gonna come to my place and cuff me if I sell them without their written consent?

Hmm...

There's actually a list of countries Apple is not allowed to sell to (Afghanistan, Iraq, etc.).

I figure that's what it is talking about.

something done to eliminate greymarket machines.

Sell it to another country and the warranty on the desktop machine vanishes.

Edit: I don't know if Apple has the same policy as car companies, but the vehicle manufactures will usually transfer the warranty if you move. Apple may also do that. But sell it and it becomes an unwarranted grey box.

so i'll be fine as long as i sell it inside Canada.
i guess i should just stick to eBay.ca then :(

It's a CYA for Apple because consumer electronics have to be licensed in the country they are sold to insure they don't conflict with private, EMS, or gov't frequencies. For example, in the US, the FCC has to test each product. Cananda, and most other gov'ts have similar agencies.

Also, there may be countries that don't allow iPods to be imported period.
