Hi

Hoped u guys had a great xmas

Got a little story for you on Xmas ... I was opening one of my presents from my mom and when I opened it .,, I got a samsung Galaxy note 4, which I was surprised because I never had a samsung cell phone and my current phone is iphone 5 and I thought that if I was getting a new phone it would be an iPhone 6... That is basically the pattern lol

What is your take on the Galaxy 4? Better than iPhone 6?

Wouldn't say better, but you can do more with it. If you are at college, then it certainly is a better one to have.

I had a Galaxy Note 4 briefly before my iPhone 6. The Note is an awesome phone. One of my only gripes was the camera performance is moderate lighting and lower lighting. It took a lot of blurry shots. The camera is very, very important to me having two little kids, so I went with the iPhone, as the camera is a tried and tested great performer. If the Note camera performed like the iPhone 6, I would still have the Note 4.

How's the performance your note 4. I've seen quite a lot of complaints over on android central of more than acceptable lag. Either way that's a heck of a nice Xmas gift!

I'm not really sure about the performance, but the screen is really nice.

Although I consider myself platform agnostic (buy what you like and enjoy it), I don't really understand people (parents) buying an Android phone for an Apple user without consulting the person first.

My kids are still young, but if I were to upgrade their smartphone, I would try to find out which platform they preferred. I would not upgrade solely on the basis of who had the better deal at the time.

Either way, enjoy your new phone and keep us updated.

Lots of info in this thread and the many others about the Note 4:

The Note 4 is an awesome phone and arguably the very best smartphone available at the moment.

Note 4, I can say from personal experience, is a nice phone with good performance, screen, camera and other less-used but still-there features. What is not so good about it, in my opinion, is its outer shell, the UI and an unreliable performance after 2nd or 3rd generation of Android upgrade (which is generic of all Samsung devices I've observed).

If you keep it you won't be disappointed. Modern mobile operating systems (the Big Two) have reached a point today where both are at par as far as replenishing certain basic functions is concerned at the backend; or the app market. What sets them apart is the frontend i.e. user experience in most cases, and certain feel-good factors. While some may like a better app management or customization in their software, others (like me) would prefer a reliable hardware (as well as software).

Also, off topic, I disagree that OP's mom gifted him a phone "solely on the basis of who had the better deal at the time"; what important is the thought/affection behind it for that is what Christmas is all about - who is around the tree rather than what is under the tree :)

The Note 4 is better than the IP6 IMHO...but it is equal to the IP6+.
Either way you can't go wrong. Just be thankful your Mom got you a very nice Christmas present. You should have a 14 day exchange/return period. So be nice and explain to your mom you would rather have a IP6 and see if you can exchange it. Everybody's happy! :)

Not an iPhone for Xmas

I absolutely agree, the most important thing is who is present with you while your celebrating Christmas. So many people are suffering the loss of parents and children to violence. The presents are but a bonus. I also think you very lucky to have a mom that knows technology, I shudder to think my mom trying to buy me a mobile device. Lol my mom called me a few months ago and ask me to come set up her new android phone . When I got there to help, to was an iPhone 5.. Lol She said what's the difference . Lol

Awe! It'd be really wrong if she put the Note 4 in an iPhone 6 box. Lol. But, nevertheless, you got a great device!

I'm not dissing Samsung at all because I don't know anything about Samsung ... Can't judge the cover of the book

Actually I spent Christmas alone.. My mom went on vacation during the holidays

Haha my mom doesn't know anything about phones or even technology ... I bet she asked the sale rep for the current few high end phones and pick the best deal of them all .. Knowing her, that is her style

Lol nfl46 ... That would be just a bad prank ... I would be yay! Then say what the hell is that lol

The Galaxy is big comparing to iPhone 5 ... I'm used to typing with one hand sometime, it a little difficult with the Galaxy but not possible until I get used to it ... I can't exchange it, it insulting lol

One of Bruce lee's quotes ..

"be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water"

I will adapt to the Galaxy note 4 :)

Your Mum did you a favour afaik. The Note 4 is the best phone available today. Its has the best screen, the most features, great battery life, the camera is excellent and only just falls behind the 6+ in low light shots and the s-Pen that really sets it apart.

We have plenty of Note 4 v iPhone 6 threads. We really don't need another. Please use one of those.

Awesome outlook! It is an amazing device, I have had mine since release and I haven't become tired of it yet. One of the best (and I never thought I would use it much) is the wide angle selfie! I covered my whole family around the christmas dinner table with it!

Awesome story! I myself also got a an Android device for Christmas. A Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. Love this thing soooo much, definitely a perfect Nexus 7 replacement. Also received some other Sony goodies, a Glaciar White PS4 and RX100 M3. I'm in gadget heaven right now. Enjoy your Note! Seems like a fantastic phone, love the design and S-Pen is sick.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
That's a really nice gift :) the Note 4 is getting TONS of rave reviews, the camera, screen, power, plus it has user upgradable storage and battery. And it has a nice metal surround on the rim.

If you can get used to the size, and Touchwiz, then you will like it. It's hard to ask if one phone is better than another as truthfully only YOU can answer that, not anyone on here. Because every persons usage is different. But it is a nice phone.

I got that tablet for Christmas too!!! Love it, so thin, and I have tested it under running water which is so surreal haha! You should try the PS4 remote play too, It works alright, a lil bit of lag but apparently if you disable the GPS on the tablet, the remote play runs buttery smooth.

Awesome! What color did you get it in? Mine's the white 32GB version, not usually a fan of white bezeled devices but it looks stunning on this one. The black is very sleek as well! The screen is great with my only complaint is the whites slightly shifting their color when tilting around but from dead on it's a great display. I've tried the Remote Play with GTA 5 and Drive Club and I was so impressed with the ability to game from the comfort of my bed. I'm looking into those DualShock controller mounts, I can see it being great with the lightness of this thing. Thanks for the tip about the GPS, I'll try disabling it next time I use it. :D
