Not Automatically connecting to Network on startup ?

Hello,

I have recently purchased my very first mac device, mac pro.

I have installed some backup software called crashplan, as the time machine wasn't working correctly with the Networked Hard Drive.

Crash Plan works well, and has done an initial backup of the system.

Upon restarting the mac pro, when start-up finished, I noticed crashplan wasn't backing up, it stated 'destination not available'.

For the destination to become available, I had to go into 'Network' find the external networked drive, and go into it, open it up so to speak...

only then would crashplan find it....

at first I thought it was a one time glitch,

so I restarted again a number of time, reinstalled the software, and no joy...

The macpro sees the external drive down the left hand column of 'finder', but for crashplan to see it, I have to manually open up 'network' and actually go into the 'networked hard drive' itself...

is their a way round this ?

is their a way the macpro can automatically connect to the networked hard drive without my having to do it manually?

I have this software on my windows pc, and windows automatically sees the networked drive, and connects to it in the background

Add the network drive as a login item in Users & Groups area of system preferences and then, if password protected, have the password saved in keychain access.app.

this did work ... but is their a way to stop the finder window from opening? I checked the tickbox saying hide, but it doesn't seem to work.
