Hi,
First post here!! :D :apple:

I recently bought an Apple TV.
I'm a big fan of all the apple stuff and own quite a lot of their products.
I also quite like the iTunes store but only for music really.

Assuming that Apple TV would just be like buying music I didnt look into it too much and just bought the thing. I'm in the UK by the way.

I'm really disappointed with the small amount of movie rentals they offer. Why is it that some movies (not just brand new ones which i understand why) you can only buy but not rent?
Is this gonna get any better?? Soon??
I dont really need the box for playing music, I got an airport Xpress for that, but thats what i mainly use it for at the moment.
If it stays like it is I'll probably sell it again. I love the concept tho.

Welcome!

yea apple tv has kind of.....sucked:rolleyes:

most ppl i know that have it use it for tv shows.

it came out the same time as the iPhone and look how much that has taken off. unless something big happens i dont see it getting much better. also the rental v buying thing could be a copyright issue.

well, i'll say in the past 6 months that I have owned an ATV, the rental situation has gotten a lot better. Ever since January, they have been adding tons and tons of rental flicks. Their library, of course, is no where near the size of Netflix. Most people using a mix of both. I still have the lowest netflix plan, along with the apple tv, i never have a problem finding what I want.

Go to www.appletvjunkie.com for keeping up to date with Rentals. Apple has definitely put some juice into their rental movie model (and now offering HD purchases). Will it be enough? I still think ATV will lose against netflix. ATV can only succeed fully when they start pushing it as a cable tv replacement...

The content is held up by licensing and an archaic buisiness model that Hollywood is reluctant to change.

The good news is that you'll be able to rent pretty much any new release within a month of the DVD release, and the "old" movies are trickling in little by little, but I agree that I wish every movie could have a purchase AND rent option.

I also wish iTunes carried some of my old favorites, but that's another topic.
