I have a Samsung 4K TV and the new Apple TV 4K. When I start streaming a 4K iTunes movie and then swipe down from the top, it says "HD", not "4K". What could be causing this? I have Quick Start disabled.

Mine does as well. I think that maybe just the way its reported.

I would like some more user input on this.

Does that mean you think it really is playing in 4K even though it says "HD" in the swipe down menu?

Turn ON Fast Start.

That fixed it for me, now it says 4K Dolby Vision.

From the pulled now that I turned Fast Start back to ON.

So weird. I had actually turned Fast Start OFF as a troubleshooting step. Turned it back on and now all of my 4K movies are actually playing in 4K, with the exception of The Lego Movie, which is the movie I watched tonight. Not sure what gives with that one. I only have four or five movies in 4K to begin with, so small sample set, but as of now they're all playing in 4K except that one.

Yeah I was just coming over to write the same thing they must have fixed the fast start thing cause now they at least look like the are in DR they did not before . regular DJ movies still look best in 1080 SDr mode

I think what I'm experiencing is related to the Movies Anywhere issue where movies that come in from VUDU in HD can only play in HD in iTunes, even when the titles advertise as 4K. Hoping Apple fixes this.

No, Turn OFF Fast Start.

When it’s off I could (could as in maybe a momentary glitch) only get HD.

Not sure what the deal is.

Agree. With Fast Start Off I would only get HD. Seems like the way it should work is that it should give you full quality with a delay, but that doesn't seem to be the case in my experience.

I envy you, sir! Here in the U.S. we have to pay a separate fee to watch Star Trek: Discovery on a service called CBS All Access.

I’m enjoying Ster Trek discovery t.v. Though I wish I could find a site showing the characters photos/names.
All I’ve found is name of acters/actresses -a simple character photo/name list would suffice.
Amazing quality -quite different and very much modern since next generartion.
Can’t beleive I’m enjoying Klingons.
Though st dis’ engineer is one of my fave charcters.
Definitely enough to keep me viewing.

Hope st Disc’ arrives in U.S. soon-maybe worth a subscription.

....

It may be different for everyone. For me turning it off fixed everything.

Actually, I was wrong, you turn on Fast Start. Then when you swipe down you can see the 4k Tag on somethings. However, it seems like on some things the HD Stream is better upscaled with the fake Dolby Vision than the actual 4k/DV Stream. I don't know what's going on with this thing anymore.

What makes you say Dolby Vision is fake on HD streams? Or do you refer to viewing HD SDR movie in forced HDR mode?
