this is because when you pwned your iPhone you checked "activate the iPhone" under general settings. Try it again, except uncheck the "activate the iPhone button" and proceed as normal. Have fun with your "apple-security-less" iPhone.;)

More likely you clicked on "NO" when it asked if your a legitimate iPhone user.

You should have clicked on "Yes" for the iPhone 3G as "no" activates it but doesn't give a signal!!!
