Since updating both my iPhone and iPad to 14.5 exactly no apps on my devices are throwing that prompt, and the "allow apps to ask to track" toggle is on. Are these prompts coming over the next few days as app updates roll out, or should I be seeing them now?

If you go into Settings > Privacy > Tracking, you'll see "Allow Apps to Request to Track". Turns out (I think - following the convoluted 'guidance' from the Learn More...option) that if the switch is off, iOS will block all requests automatically and you'll not see the pop-up screen on newly installed / updated apps. If you turn the switch on, you are supposed to see these individual pop-ups and, if you use "Ask App Not To Track" in the pop-up, it will then list them in the Settings > Privacy > Tracking section, for you to later change your mind on.

Possibly one of the worst though-out controls (and instructions) Apple has come up with in awhile.

I also don't get the prompts. We have 2 iPhones here. One iPhone shows the prompts and my iPhone doesn't show any prompts. I tested the same apps (BBC News for example) on both iPhones.

I don't get the prompts either and I have the switch turned on to allow ask (have tried the other way also)
When would we get them -only with new apps or?
What apps are people getting them on

Unbelievable. You'd think with 3 months of beta testing they could manage to make this work at release.

Agreed. Horribly implemented and communicated. Makes one question how serious they are about this feature.

Huh. Mine is off, and greyed out so even if I for some reason wanted to turn it on I can’t. Does cause me to question if it’s working properly.

So if the button is not turned on, as below, this means no apps are currently tracking correct?

Their own 'Learn More...' is terrifically convoluted and full of nonsensical instructions, but it seems to come to this -

- If the radio control is 'Off' (as per your image) then the blocker is, in fact, 'On', and the 'request to track' window simply muted, and you've blocked the tracker. Nothing else needs doing.
- If the radio control is 'On' (green slider), then the blocker is 'On' too, but you should see the 'request to track' window after the next update to an app's software, or if you open a new app. Once you've decided on a particular app's tracking fate, it should be listed on the Tracking page where you can change your mind about it later.

Unless, apparently, you have hitherto set a particular app's controls independently re: tracking, then that may disable this particular feature.
Or you have another app - like Lockdown Privacy, whose free Firewall setting seems to disable most tracking silently and without Apple involvement.

Its all a bit of a mess - good idea, badly realized. Pity.

I swear to God, If I see one more person comment that you have to wait for apps to update...

I tried each of the apps pictured in the article (DnD, Hulu etc) and I get NO prompt. I'm running the latest versions of these apps, and have "ask to track" turned on.

This feature is broken for some people, period.

So far, only Hulu & NextDoor have asked to track.

I actually got the request for Hulu to track when I opened the Apple TV app.

haven’t gotten anything from Facebook yet.

Mine is grayed out as well. In fact I am now running 14.6 beta 2 and it has been like this from the beginning

I managed to fix the greyed out slider with following steps:

1. logging out from iCloud (Settings—> Apple ID (your picture on the top) —> Sign out (Save copy of your data to iPhone).

- at this point I had the slider enabled

2. logging back to your iCloud account
- the slider still keeps being enabled, even I turned off and on the iPhone

Installed the latest .1 update today and then got my first pop up about ad tracking. So it looks as if one of the stated fixes might work.

Same here. Only got one tracking pop up from a food ordering app and I was still in iOS 14.4.2, but nothing since 14.5. Can't wait to block facebook but very time I open the FB app, nothing happens.
