I don't really like the app store, but I have downloaded things that were free, they're pretty cool, but the things u pay for u get for free with Installer, which I loved!! I can't wait til Installer returns for 2.0! Coming Soon!! It'll make 2.0 wayyyyyyyyyy better!

I don't see how that makes the App Store a bad thing though. For people who don't want to JB their iPhones the App Store is a pretty useful thing!

The App Store will mature out over the next few months to put anything Windows Mobile has to shame.

I'd go out on a limb and say the App store will make the iPhone untouchable in a few months. Without requiring a jailbreak.

Untouchable? you mean the best not as in no one would actually want to touch it right?

I think the app store will be the "killer app" which plenty others have said

The biggest criticism I see about the app store is that the quality of apps suck. Give it time!

This is new not only to us users, but to the developers creating apps as well. I'm sure a lot of them pushed to learn the SDK quickly and get something ready for sale.

And so far the prices are within reason too.

I predict that the number of apps available via Installer will decline steadily over the next 6 months. With super simple mass deployment and the ability to set your own price with no minimum I think most devs will simply start using the App store.

I think the App Store has a lot of potential but its getting really cluttered and its only going to get way worse. There are too many crappy applications and its hard to find the good ones while sorting through all that junk. They also need to add trial versions so I can decide for sure once I'm really interested in an app.

Jailbreaking was cool before when apps weren't allowed on the iPhone. I would have to say it is time for the developers to be paid for their hard work in creating entertainment for all of us. I for one don't mind paying for the good games and apps out there. Of course there are also a few things that are or should be free (Flashlight app, social networking, etc).

The Appstore is a huge hit with me, and I would say I have already spent close to $100 on games/apps myself, and my girlfriend has spent even more than that! (Pre-med student, so some of her apps are way more expensive!)

As for trial versions.. I was even thinking they could charge $.99 for a 5 day trial period. If you like the game, that $.99 goes towards the purchase, if you don't like it you receive an e-mail that says "Thank you for the donation!"

Why would people assume the apps that were free in Installer 1.0 but are not free under AppStore will appear free when Installer v2.0 comes out?

Now I'm not saying it's nor gonna probably be awesome soon enough, cuz I know the 2.0 just got made and just got available for tmobile users as well, and the fact that u don't need to uninstall something to delete it from ur screen is cool, but from what I have seen SO FAR ad opposed to what I saw in installer when it first released, installer was wayyyyyy better, and who knows, installer 2.0 could also make u pay for the apps, but I don't really see that happening

Love the Apple store

Glad they have a Free/Pay sections and think it generally follows the way other iTunes sections are setup which is a good thing

Easy to use and find apps

I personally like the App store: perfect way for developers to supply their apps to the entire iPhone community. One can still jailbreak and still use the App store.

You can get Super Monkey and Poker X on Installer?

WOW. that puts the app store to shame. Not.

Different markets.

But as another posted stated, it just seems you want free stuff.

The App Store is too convenient for it to be anything but successful.

I knew a lot of "normal" people that had iPhones before the App Store and they didn't know about Installer.app. Now you have people that are even less tech savy buying iPhones. You really think those people are going to jailbreak their phones and install Installer.app???

I love the App Store. Unfortunately it seems to be damaging my bank balance. What really amazes me is that people are prepared to pay for decent applications. In the long run, hopefully, it will only make developers write better programs.

I'm not sure why this really amazes you...apps on the app store are amazingly inexpensive. 90% of apps are under $10. Put in perspective, that's slightly more than a trip to a fast food place or less than a trip to the movie theater with a small popcorn and a drink.

why would u buy anything from App store? I haven't and now Installer 4 is coming out, and it's the same like the 1.x.x Installer App, just better for 2.0! Us people waiting for Installer are gonna benefit best in the end!! App store is dumb, and if people don't know about installer, sucks for them! Just tell them like I did my grandpa with his 1.1.4, and he loves it! I cant wait!! It's almost complete!

Can you post your age?

I'm guessing 16. You don't seem to have a grasp of economics yet is why I am asking.

You're overestimating by a couple years, I think.

Like I said, developers making any sort of decent application are going to abandon the Installer distibution very quickly. You can get your application up and running using a free, well documented SDK from Apple, and then for $100 upgrade your account if you think your program is worth ANYTHING at all. Some testing on real hardware and waiting for Apple approval and bam, you can market your software to millions, not thousands, of people.

If you write something that you think is even remotely useful you can charge $.99 and be turning a profit in a matter of days (the 143rd download of a $.99 app turns a profit for you). Installer is going to be left with the dregs. Junkware, stuff not allowed by Apple's licensing (which does include GNU/GPL material, so there will be useful utilities made eventually), pirated software, etc.

There's just very, very little reason to distribute software outside of the App store. Apple saw to that by making the SDK free and making free applications an option.

We are currently at the second coming of 'iPhone'.

In time, the iPhone will gain even more processor power, RAM and storage.

The app store will house even more powerful mobile applications.

I am confident it will blow anything Windows Mobile has to offer, out of the water.

The App Store is young, and this, my friends, is just the beginning.
