I have noticed that in the two weeks I have had my new iPod shuffle, i've noticed that I'm listening to the same artists over and over again. This is surprising since the reason I wanted to buy the shuffle was this idea of hassle free "autofill".

It seems as if iTunes doesn't look "far" enough into my library of some 2500 songs. I have the "random choice" option ticked.

Then again, maybe I'm just surprised that my library isn't as gigantic as I first imagined.

Anyone else get this feeling?

I know exactly what you mean, but it's entirely psychological. A lot of songs seem to come up all the time whereas others are totally ignored, but it is 100% random. The iTunes option does not apply to your iPod, so it won't do anything special like it does in iTunes.

Make a smart playlist which contains only songs which have not been played in the last 7 days, (or whatever length of time you think is right), and then tell your iPod shuffle to autofill from this new playlist. Problem solved.
