Ramblin' with the ramblers.
Hey all. I've had my awesome BlackBook for about 3 weeks now. I love it. However, starting earlier today, my lid has been creaking when I open or close it. And holy crap, it is LOUD!
Any idea what to do? I checked the screws and they're all tight, so I don't think anything's loose. Any ideas? This is really annoying, b/c it's LOUD and I take it just about everywhere with me, so I don't want it creaking all the time.

I just noticed I had this earlier today as well. I'm not so sure it's as bad as the OP says, but it just sounds like little clicking noises whenever I move/open/close the lid, and I've only had this for about 3 weeks as well. Surely this isn't normal?
And yes, I know your name isn't Shirley. :p

This is what I'm afraid of. Any ideas on fixing it? Anyone? I intended for this to be my computer for the next 5 years or so...and now it sounds like Mick Jagger losing his voice into a megaphone.

I can't speak for the black macbook, but I remember having this EXACT problem with my first model white iBook.. If i remember correctly, back then it was suggested in some forums to lubricate the screen hinges with (I think it was silicone grease), but who knows if that will solve the problem on these new macbooks.

A geographical oddity
If it happens everytime, and you are sure it does, then I can suggest the following: take it to an Apple Store. I don't know if they have one "inside your clothes where no one can see you", but may opened one recently.

I did the same with my PB, and they took care of it for me.

My iBook used to do the same, but it seems to have stopped since I just moved it and nothing happened. Might just need to be some necessary wear and tear.

Thanks guys.

Lol. I live in Missouri and the closest Apple Store is an hour and a half away. I ordered it off of MacConnection.
There is an Apple reseller, however. I emailed them last night and am waiting for a response. Am I likely to get it fixed even though I didn't buy it from them?

Warbrain, what do you mean, "just moved it?"
