Not sure quad i5 4GB/8GB

hello first wow that s my first thread

well, i m going to buy an imac i5 with and that is the question 4Gb or 8GB so does quad also worth it with 4GB and how much better is it with 8GB??

I ll game on win7 and do other things on mac os like school stuff

do i have to think about other stuff of buying an imac??

If you do a lot of multi-tasking then the 8GB might suit you better. If you think you need 8GB, I would recommend just getting the standard setup with 4GB and then monitor your memory usage and see if you really need the extra 4GB. Then buy the extra memory from a 3rd party and save yourself a bit of money.

and what s about gaming is the imac a good choice (WIn7)

RAM is very easy to install. One screw and you can pop it in. Windows 7 is a good choice for gaming but note that the 27" iMacs have problems with installation at the moment and Apple doesn't officially support 7 yet.

No one knows when or if the install will be made smoothly. Its not really a "problem" at the moment becuase Apple doesn't currently support Windows 7 although support will probably come in the next few weeks. The quad is a good choice if you need lots of multi-core cpu power. THere is no nVidia card because Apple has chosen not to put one in. They may add an option later next year but the 4850 is a pretty decent card given the power constraints of an iMac.

either way you should buy from a 3rd party source, Apple RAM is $$$$$. I would recommend 8GB if you're going to be gaming and running Windows. It would be nice to be able to leave some applications open in the background, or if you get into messing around with some high RAM usage programs in the future.

RAM today is $$$$$.

Prices were better earlier this year. DDR2 was half as much! I'd go for 4 GB and wait until next year for the rest.

You could buy RAM from Apple if you were so inclined. The Core 2 Duos are fine for gaming as most games are bound by the graphics card rather than the CPU.

The machine will run exceptionally well with 4GB of memory. If you have extra cash someday, add 4GB more then.

Definitely don't order it with 8GB. Try it with 4GB for a while. I don't run Parallels or anything, but I have dome some HD video editing in FCE and have not been limited by 4GB at all. This is a case where there is no advantage to ordering it installed, since it costs more that way.
