Other Not sure whether to pre-preorder carrier version or unlocked version

For god knows what reason, in the past, Apple has extremely low stock of the unlocked version, to the point of not offering them for purchase on day 1. It'd be helpful to know the carrier model I should pre-preorder so that I don't get the dreaded gray, frustratingly non-expounded upon "Currently Unavailable" at 5a PT. Is anyone ordering the model of their carrier instead of the unlocked model to avoid classic Apple nonsense during crunch time?

I am going to be purchasing 2 unlocked iPhone 12 Pro's Friday morning and trading in 2 iPhone X's. Already have them ready in the apple app. Personally I always go for the unlocked phones.
