Hi I have iOS 11.1.2 and am NOT upgrading the iOS because I don't want my iPhone to potentially get slow.

Is the 5W wireless charging that much slower than the wireless fast charging at 7.5W

You won't lose much by going from iOS 11.1.2 to 11.2.1 (except the jailbreak if you're into that), it's usually the major iOS releases that can impact performance. Anyway, I haven't tried myself but from what I have read on the internet, no it doesn't make a big difference, some people even had hard time knowing whether or not the feature was enabled in 11.2

In my opinion, it is stupid to spend $1,000 on a phone you use on a daily basis, and not update the software (when needed) because you are afraid of Apple possibly throttling the CPU, because you wore the battery out, and you would rather the phone shut down, than use the Apple protect your device method.

If your battery should go bad because of overuse, replace it and there is no problem. If the battery goes bad while under warranty, Apple replaces. Problem solved.

You should spend some time educating yourself, instead of jumping on the MR hyperbole bus.

Slowdown has not yet been applied to the iPhone 8 or X so you are good to go.

Slow down is applied to iPhones with a consumed battery. (Greater than 500 charge cycles.) I would be impressed if someone has already reached that level of battery health with an 8/X. However it’s safe to say if the current OS detected an iPhone 8/X with a consumed battery it would likely throttle the CPU as well.

In their statement it’s only been rolled out to the iPhone 7 with “plans to roll out to future iPhones”.

That doesn’t mean that if you have an iPhone 7, it is now slower. It means that if your iPhone 7’s battery gets worn out, the iPhone will run slower until you replace it.

Some people here are acting like updating their OS will automatically slow down their phone.

Agreed. Only if the battery is past a certain level. No one knows what that is as people are reporting slower speeds with 85% battery levels.

However, even if you have 500 cycles and 70% level on a 8 or X, at this stage, it’s not Intentionally slowed, yet.

You should have read a bit more carefully. When your phone gets older, and the battery gets older, you will either get sudden shutdowns, or it will be slowed down as needed, _or_ you replace the battery. If it happens, replace the battery. And you can be sure that at some point there will be some update that you will absolutely need.

BTW. Whatevery you are afraid of, it is in iOS 11.1.2 already.

Only for iPhones prior to iPhone 7.

Not upgrading is a poor choice. Unless your battery is 1.5 years old, it's not going to slow down.

The slowdown is not a political move by Apple, it's to prevent voltage spikes pushing an aging lithium battery below minimum safe voltage.

I'm staying on iOS 11.2 until I see something that is really worthy of an upgrade, to bad that my iPhone X came installed with iOS 11.2 and not iOS 11.1.2 because after all this year I really want to jailbreak this device.

I have not jail broken. What is the advantage right now?

somebody may bring a solution to unlock the phone without doing a swap up and got to the home screen just by watching the phone. Bring control center with a swap from the bottom, use a firewall, download youtube videos directly to the phone from safari.

Threadjacking your own thread? There’s a dedicated jailbreak forum if you need to start asking questions about it. Maybe what you really need is just to spend a little time away from forums and just enjoy the phone.

Why is everyone so opposed to replacing old batteries? coconutbattery monitor will tell you how many cycles are on it. most people are surprised.

No, but the 7.5W puts more thermal and chemical wear on the battery than the 5W. The 5W is a balance between results and longevity.

Update for security fixes if nothing else----

OP---stop worrying so much and enjoy your Apple products :)

And this is exactly what happens when you start reading way too deep into every comment on a tech forum. iOS updates are not meant to hurt your iPhone, they rectify the issues that need to be addressed and make improvements in areas where needed. Not every update is perfect, but if your attitude is that you're afraid of updating iOS, then you're truly taking away from the iPhone experience of enjoying it because of your mindset.
