not using iphone, battery drains anyway

I have an iphone 4s in beautiful cosmetic condition that I'd like to pass on to a family member if I can solve this problem. Replaced the battery a month ago assuming the previous one was bad since it would not hold a charge longer than 4 or 5 hours even when not being used. The Coconut Battery app is, I feel, excellent for determining battery health.

From the screen shot below, looks like the new battery is performing like new but some component in the phone leaking juice.

Would you an idea where I might begin trying to find it? Thanks for looking and for your thoughts.

Unless I'm missing something it looks like it is still fully charged there. It is normal for it to drop a bit even while not being used. How long is it lasting on standby now that it has the new battery?

I should've made clear. The screen shot I posted was made just after giving the battery a full charge at 3 pm 6/15. This morning at near 6am the battery charge percentage shows 39% on the phone screen and 37.3% on coconutBattery. Phone was on standby in airplane mode, no apps running. I never even picked it up during that time. So in 9 hrs., it lost a little over 61% of its charge just sitting on the desk. Except for this battery problem, all is well. All other phone features work perfectly. Thanks for your reply.

Unless you accidentally damaged something when you replaced the battery a month ago, I would suspect a bad replacement battery. Try downloading 3uTools (it's free) to see what it gives you on the battery diagnostics. The reason I point this out is that there are a lot of poor quality batteries on the market and even respected vendors get some duds in their inventory.

If you want to try some hardware troubleshooting, check to see if the phone is hotter than normal, which would indicate a potential high current draw. If so, then you could try physically disconnecting peripherals, such as cameras and sensors, one at a time to see if this has an impact on battery life.

However, considering how easy is it to replace battery on the 4S, that's what I would try first.

Thanks for your reply. The current battery is the second new battery I've tried so this is 3 (counting the original) batteries that have behaved the same way. I like the idea of disconnecting peripherals. I'll need to look for info. to do that which will show me locations of the plugs I'll need to disconnect one at a time. Maybe iFixit will be of help.

From now on, I'll tinker with it to learn. I realize I could probably buy a 4s on ebay cheap that works. BUT WHAT FUN WOULD THAT BE! If I make a helpful discovery, I'll post it. Thanks again.

I agree with Minho. It's probably a bad battery. You didn't say from where you are sourcing these batteries, but I'd recommend finding a different source.

What iOS version are you running? Do you see any battery stats on the phone as to what's using the battery?

Running 9.3.5 After giving plenty of time and having 5 apps running, battery usage only says "Battery information will be available after using iPhone for a few minutes."

Well, to be honest, I went with a $16 battery on Amazon. I think the company was called Ombar. First one I ordered drained quickly. They sent me a second as replacement and the replacement did exactly the same thing. I figured the trouble must be in the phone. I suppose it could have been 2 lousy batteries in a row.

If I choose to try another new battery, I'll go with one from iFixit. Any other reliable suppliers? At this point, I'm pondering whether to put more money into it though.
