Not using Lightroom?

Hi...

I used an early version for a while but found it to be a fairly bloated photo/image organizer... a bit like iPhoto.

I use Photoshop exclusively for my image/post processing and I'm not really inclined to use anything else.

I organise my photos manually.

I find with PS I can batch process, edit metadata, and watermarks/copyrights and captions easily.

I'm certainly NOT bashing lightroom, I just find I'm used to a workflow with PS.

Just interested in your thoughts.

Do whatever works for you - there is no wrong workflow.

I use Lightroom for the DAM features. It's editing abilities has evolved quite nicely since you have last used it.
However, if you are not into cataloging your photos, it probably still wont work for you.

You have to use what works for you. I prefer a workflow that allows to edit and manage my images in one app. Both aperture and LR do this very well. One size does not fit all.

PS is amazing. Adobe adds a few Photoshop type tools to LR with every upgrade, but it will never take it's place. Many of us grew up on PS & Bridge and considered it the finest way to work with images. It still is in many respects.

Follow the link and watch the 100 ways. Remember PS and Bridge were not designed for photography. They are general purpose graphics tools. Knowing that Adobe designed Lightroom purposely for photography.

I'm a recent Lightroom convert, I used to strictly dump files and deal with RAWs and PSD.

Lightroom is a nice addition, you can quickly overview lots of pictures to pick keepers. Especially since you can easily develop them (you know that landscape that looked so bland until you added some contrast). It's also nice to have something take care of neatly organizing your images so you don't have to hunt them down.

Lightroom is rarely the be all and end all for my images and I certainly see how some shooters can work with strictly Photoshop and good organization but Lightroom is a well thought out tool.

I converted over to Lightroom/PS cloud in March from Aperture. However I am reevaluating software. Capture One is looking very good. Almost all my test images Capture One are my picks over Lightroom and I know Lightroom a lot better than Capture One. One draw back to Capture One is no plugin support.

Continuing to kick the software I'll use down the road. All of them are compromises.

I think it was easier for me to use LR (or Aperture) because I wasn't a huge PS user. I found the tools and non destructive edits to be better and specific to my humble needs.
