Not waking up from sleep sometimes, need to reboot

Hi,

Having the following problem on Yosemite on my rMBP 14: Sometimes, fails to wake up from sleep and I have to hold the power button to do a hard reboot. Never ever had this issue on Mavericks, started with Yosemite.

Anybody else having this problem? Any suggestions how to debug?

Ok, on a whim, I uninstalled Intel Power Gadget, and now it seems to wake again every time. Go figure, let's see if the problem is fixed now.

I'm having the same problem with my Late 2012 Mini (i7). I decided to leave it for a bit and when I came back it had restarted itself, with a message saying that it had restarted "because of a problem"

Well, issue is back again. It may have started happening after installing iTunes 12.0.1 update, not sure though.

But that reinstall may have been a waste, I realized it may be something totally different. Only when the brightness is set to lowest setting, the screen remains dark after wake. But then adjusting the brightness actually turns screen on. It's due to the lack of visual/audio feedback when computer wakes I thought it didn't wake up at all. If brightness is set to level 2 or higher, issue doesn't happen.

Can anybody else confirm this? Just set to lowest brightness, sleep and wake and see if screen remains black until you push the brightness up button.

Exactly the same problem with my Mac Pro 2009. This issue started with Public Beta version 4 I believe. Clean install of the final version didn't help. I also used a different hard drive, no luck.

Just a brightness issue on the lowest setting, right? Please send feedback to Apple, the more of us complain the more likely they will fix it.

Same here on an iMac 2011.

Don't know if it is related to brightness, but it could very well be, as it only happens when I start up in the morning

Well, it's very easy to see if it's the brightness bug: Push the increase brightness button on the keyboard when the screen remains dark after waking. On my machine, it comes on then.

Anyways, please make sure you send feedback to Apple regarding the bug.

It doesn't come on then. Had it again this morning and had to do a hard reset again.

The lists of bugs in Yosemite keeps growing. Makes you wonder what the public beta was good for then.

Same problem earlier tonight again with the Sleep 'disorder', 2nd time I had to do a hard reboot.

That was the final straw for me..after days of extreme lag and other issues. I finished restoring my iMac back to Mavericks via Time Machine about one hour ago.

Took about 80-90 minutes total, but I swear I think it actually works faster compared to when I had Mavericks - before upgrading to 10.10 on Friday. - No idea why but I'm not complaining here.

Whatever the case, I'm VERY happy I did the restore.

Well, on 10.10.1 this issue is still not fixed. It's such a simple thing, you'd think that it would be an easy fix. They just need to bump up the brightness one notch after wakeup from sleep.

2) Send the machine to sleep (via the Apple menu)
3) Wake machine
4) The screen now remains off after wake, you need to raise brightness one notch (by pushing F2) before screen turns on.

I also have issues resuming from wake. The screen remains black and the only way to fix it is to turn the machine off and back on. I have deleted the power preferences and it still has not resolved the issue. The latest OS X update that Apple just pushed out is when this issue started. Before that, no issue.

I will say this issue seems to happen when I leave the machine and it blanks out/sleeps without me closing the lid or anything else.

Well, that's interesting. Still wondering if anybody else can reproduce it, maybe only certain system configurations are affected.

I actually had this problem in Mavericks. Installing Yosemite made the problem go away. Since Yosemite, my MBP wakes from sleep every time. I know it doesn't help, but I thought it was interesting I sort of had the opposite experience.

Really, not a single other person having this problem that I have? I even cleanly re-installed Yosemite, but the problem didn't go away. So I am wondering what is so "special" about my setup that I seem to be the only one with this issue.

I'm actually experiencing a similar issue, but I'm running the 10.10 betas that are being released periodically, what happening with me is when i close the lid on MBP Mid 2010, after waking up it loads the user sign-on screen but I cannot click on my icon or anything that would let me type in my password. that leads me to always powering it down and rebooting it. Im hoping its a bug in the betas.
