i spilled water on my macbook pro-a1398 mid 2015 2.5ghz 16gb amd m370x. i swapped with a new motherboard, which bootlooped and wouldn't display anything. it chimed, but saw nothing. no external display either. ideas? the new board wasn't faulty, I tried two different ones.

I don't think the external will pop up automatically. If the internal display is still connected. Until the external has been designated as the default monitor. I'd try leaving the internal display disconnected and connect the external.

good call- just tried it and that was it. think I need a new display cable. weird problem now though- BootCamp works perfectly fine, while macos just goes to recovery mode. how would one partition work while the other gets lost?
appreciate the suggestion

Hopefully it's the cable. Although those internal cables aren't easy to replace. Due to the display being sealed.

If macOS was booted during the incident. Perhaps something got corrupted. That's the only guess I'd venture without a lot of diagnostics.

Edit: Be sure to do a PRAM and SMC reset.
