Note 2, 64GB

I already picked Note 2 vs competition as the smartphone that best suits my current needs.
Problem is i can not satisfy with 16GB embedded with 64 GB from SD card and would really need 64+64...
I can not find any reliable info about availability of this one or even asian seller I could order from.
Would anyone in same situation have more info / solution?

I'm not sure the 64gb will ever be released. The 32gb and 64gb models were released in Korea in late September. (Interestingly enough, they didn't sell the 16gb models there.) However, in mid-October, a report came out that Samsung was going to discontinue production of the 64gb model in Korea (source in Korean).

Earlier this month I was asking about the (Korean) 64gb version on a different forum. Unfortunately, I got this response:

The 64 GB model is gone...discontinued and recalling any unsold ones.
Spoke with a sales manager at Samsung on the weekend.

Apparently it was unstable and was causing more downloading problems than it was worth.

Sure, one can insert a 64gb microSD card (and maybe even a 128gb microSD card when those get released, perhaps next year?), but if I decide to play a lot of games, then 16gb wouldn't be enough, won't it? Furthermore, I'm pretty sure that one cannot transfer apps to the microSD card, unless one is on root. (I don't plan on rooting the device - I'm afraid I'll brick it.)

Here's a question for the Galaxy S III fans: was there a delay after the 16gb was released before the 32gb version come out? I seem to remember that was the case. How long was that delay?

As far as I remember GS3 16GB and 32GB were released at same time.
Maybe i shall wait for GS4 64 GB then (5 inch display expected) and add a possible 128 GB card...
I can not understand this memory limitation, i bought a 32 GB 3GS more than 3 years ago and today i am still limited to 32GB again ?! 128 GB embedded should be already available for those who need it...

Three words: lack of demand.

If you offer removable SD cards then most people will happily (and quite sensibly) opt for a phone with modest embedded storage in the knowledge that they can add a cheap SD card if/when they need it.

The main things that eat storage are music, photos and video, which live quite happily on the SD card. Also, that demand could fall as more and more people switch to streaming.

Producing multiple models is a risky business for manufacturers - one false move and you end up with a shortage of 16GB models and a warehouse full of 64GB models.

I would say you're missing out, my "16"GB Note 2 has over 70GB, and 64gb cards can be had for as low as $42. What's a joke is to pay two hundred extra dollars for that. If you think you need 128GB, then you might be waiting an eternity for those Note 2s or will pay an obscene amount for an international model.

I havent seen many comments about issues with the Note II's storage. 16GB + 64GB microsd for an extra $40 is a great option. I think you're mistaking the Note for the Nexus where 16GB is the only option with no expandable storage. With all the phones you're considering, the Note would give you the most storage at this time.

Strangely, "App 2 SD" says "The device does not have a real primary external storage". Hmm... so I can't seem to move apps to the external microSD card on my Note 2.

You can expand up to 64GB, which is quite a lot for a mobile device. It's true you can't install certain things on the the microSD card, so if you have LOTS of apps, you might want to get the 32GB model. But if you just need the extra space for music and videos, then the 16GB model should suffice.

And it is well known that this external storage is not ideal, I am not into rooting etc I just want a 64+64 GB Note 2 i dont think it is too much to ask as it was advertised as part of line up from day 1 ...

so if you have LOTS of apps, you might want to get the 32GB model.

You'd have to need need lots of apps. As far as I can tell, on a 16GB phone, you should get about 200 average-sized apps on there. Add to that, it is trivially easy to uninstall an app and re-install from the cloud if you need it again and I figure that would be enough for most people, while 32GB would mop up most of the rest.

...and that's the kicker. Economy of scale is a huge factor in the cost of electronic devices, so anything more than 'most people' need is going to be expensive and not widely stocked.

The SD card is the game changer, because it can take all the space-eatingn stuff like video, photos and music. I wouldn't go for a device with 16GB and no SD slot.

I'd probably have have bought a Galaxy Nexus a few months ago if it had one. I saw rumours of a new GN with SD slot so I waited, then the Note 2 came out, so I'm slightly relieved that the Nexus 4 turned out to be SD-less.

I do, however, wonder whether Google are avoiding SD to 'encourage' people to use their cloud services.

Music is what takes up most space on my iphone. I installed Google Play and uploaded my itunes to it, including playlists and play counts and everything.

This is where the beauty of still having unlimited comes in . I no longer need to sync my phone with my computer, it will automatically do it. And I have no limits* as to how much data I use...I don't have to use Verizon's stupid data sense or whatever they call it.

Pics and other files can be stored on the SD card.

Additional 20 to 30GB of files and docs i need to keep with me
That is for pro usage.
only in music i have more than 300 GB, i dont have any movie.
I dont even count apps ...

Sounds like you could use cloud storage, I know it's expensive but that's what it costs to store that much data for an end user.

The note 2 is great for gaming, and decent modern games nowadays take up lot of space. If you have 3 or more HD games on the device, you are compromising both the space for other items but also not being able to take advantage of the screen real estate and high end specifications.

I agree, that crippling such a high end device with minimal storage is restrictive and consumers should always veer toward at the very least, expandable memory-'able' devices, or choose built-in memory configurations which give real value for money. This sends a message to manufacturers to offer higher internal memory with little to no change in pricing.

The only reason why they offer 16gb phones is because we still buy them.

I believe that this 16gb offering is also a marketing tool for other services such as cloud storage products and possibly On-Live-like gaming services.

I am not one of those that support the theory that internal memory would necessarily increase overall costs significantly to the consumer and believe instead that current pricing for higher internal memory devices is artificial.

I thought I misread the initial post. The OP has a NEED for 128GB of storage space. On a PHONE? There are people who have an SSD with less storage than that. What on earth are you keeping on there. CIA intelligence material?

To each his own, and everyone needs different things, be sheesh. That is a lot of data to be carrying around on a phone.

At the moment i need my laptop along with my tiny 3GS...
In many situations a Note with enough storage capacity would perfectly match my needs!
