I am thinking of moving from my 7 plus to a note 8 or an iPhone x. The x I.S looking too small though .

I was wondering from iOS switchers to the note 8 what things do you not like as I know all the positives to that device. The screen Is making me want it just alone and the multitasking split screen apps.

And has this dreaded lag issue changed over time? Any previous s8 plus users how are those devices holding up for you guys?

Cheers all

Coming from a 7+ (and every iPhone since the 4), the only real negative for me is the sound not being as good through the speaker. And that's not a major thing.

Even the poor placement of the fingerprint sensor doesn't bother me anymore. And if you use a case, it helps guide you to it anyway.

Not noticed any lag and just once, maybe twice had an unresponsive app that was quickly sorted by closing and opening again.

If you can get one with a returns period, definitely try it out. Had planned to get the iPhone X but no way I'm going to spend an extra £500 (taking into account the price difference and loss on selling the Note) on a phone when I'm loving the Note and also Android as a nice change from iOS.

What about unlocking the phone I’ve read the fb scanner is unreliable and so is the iris scanner.

Not had problems with either. Both very reliable. It's facial recognition that can be unreliable. And obviously no use in the dark.

It's as reliable as Touchid on iPhone. The key is to set it up in slightly different positions to account for how you'll how you might try to use it in a rush. It's very good.

FPS placement sucks. Speaker compared to iPhone sucks. Form factor takes some getting used to.

Otherwise it's great.

Have you considered the Pixel 2 XL ? there is a great thread here.

Hi yep that was top of my list but I wasnt happy with the screen when i tried it. The note just has the extra wow factor to it.

I came from an iPhone 7+ and have had the Note 8 three weeks now and I'm loving it. I have small to medium-ish hands and I have no problem accessing the fingerprint scanner. It's just not that big of a deal. Iris scanner is convenient as well. The phone is smooth as butter. Initially I was worried about battery life since I'd had a terrible experience with my S7 Edge, but the battery life on this phone is just great. I'm loving mine so far!

Also, the camera...it's ridiculously good.

Came from 6s+. As others have said, the speaker isn't great, but I only use it really for things that don't matter. I use ear buds or a Bluetooth speaker for music. The FPS too me is better on the back for one handed use, but placement isn't ideal. Muscle memory kicks in pretty quick. The biggest drawback is messaging with a family of iPhones. I was worried about that but it's not been a problem. I love this thing and the Gear S3 watch I like way better than Apple Watch.

I like to switch platform every once in a while. The last time I switched, I went for a Note 4. Then, after using iPhone for few years, I just recently switched from an iPhone 7 to a Note 8. Honestly, with Note 8, I haven't really experienced any negative things. Unlike Note 4, Note 8 feels very fluid and there is no lag at all. Samsung has done a great job with their skin and I think 6GB of RAM is helping too.

I will tell you that if you are considering switching, be sure to turn off iMessage and Facetime at least a couple of days in advance so that Apple servers are all synced up and then have your friends/family delete existing group thread if all of them are on iOS.

I agree with all these points. Can't think of any others myself. Apps on iOS are generally better than Android imo that would be the only other thing I can think of. Still in my testing phase but I REALLY like this phone.

Only complaint I have is battery life. My phone now says about 18 hrs and 20 minutes on a full 100% battery when in the past, the estimate was about 22-24 hrs. Ever since going abroad, using roaming, and my phone more frequently, the battery estimate dropped to 18 hrs. I am currently thinking of ways to fix that though.

Hmm I would say I miss iMessage less than I anticipated since my close family switched over to WhatsApp which works very well. It has been a big job switching accounts over and re-entering passwords, etc for my favorite apps, also learning the Android system as I was immersed in Apple world. I can't really see any decrease in app quality comparing iOS to Android though. I do miss Apple News and iMessage synching with my MacBook and iPad Pro. I worried a lot about bloatware but that hasn't been a problem either. No more lag than iOS at this point. All in all, I love my new phone and miss my iPhone less than I was anticipating. This is a really nice phone. So was my 6s Plus. Just didn't think Apple was offering a compelling upgrade device for me this year. And now I feel free to move back and forth whenever I please because I now realize it's just not that difficult to do.

Hope that helps. It really just depends on what you're hoping to achieve by switching. I feel like Apple has gotten greedy with pricing and lazy with software, not to mention stingy with hardware. So I decided to step out and try something new. No major regrets.

I got the V30. I still use iMessage because my fiancee uses an iPhone. It's easier when we can see if we've read each others messages. So I use my 7 Plus on Wi-Fi or tether it to my V30. I do miss the emoji selection when texting on my V30. The sound quality with dual external speakers is undeniably better, so my 7 Plus gets more use when I'm not using headphones. As for the camera, I can't speak for the Note 8 but they iPhone has really fast point and click. It stabilizes photos quickly.

The Note 8 is a great phone.....
But the FPS is in bad location....its too long and the bottom speaker is not great. Hate the Bixby and that button

Coming from iPhone 7 ( still have it)
The Note 8 lags sometimes.
Bad location of the FPS.
Speaker does not get very loud.
Difficult to get a good screen protector for it on account of the curved screen.
Slow updates.
This is personal but I thought my eyes hurt after using the iris scanner. Maybe psychological but I switched it off.

However, there is no equivalent to the s pen.
Accurate iris scanner - fast, reliable unlocks.

If you don’t need the s pen, I would suggest the Nokia 8 or the pixel 2. Better still, wait and see how the Nokia 9 is.

You're putting infrared directly into your eyes. I've never even tried the iris scanner because of this. I have big hands so using the fingerprint scanner is very comfortable for me with either hand.
