I use intensively Notes app by activating a hot corner and opening a Quick note.

The problem is that the note floats on top by default. I need to go every time to menu>Window and disable Float on top which is a big annoyance for my workflow.

Does anyone know how to disable it so that by default is does not float on top ?

Thanks.

What is happening, in some order, with the hot corner method is:
  • The Notes app opens in the background (hidden).
  • A new note is created and opened with "Float on Top" checked.
If "Float on Top" isn't checked for the new note you wouldn't be able to see it since the Notes app is hidden.

There isn't any other option in the Hot Corners settings that would let you run something like an Applescript that could open Notes (not hidden) and create a new note…so it would seem Hot Corners, on its own, isn't going to work for this issue.

I think BetterTouchTool used to be able to expand hot corner use (like running Applescript) but I don't know now.

Alternately, I suppose an Applescript could be configured somehow (Automator?) with a key combination to open Notes and create a new note. But the Notes app cannot be hidden if you want to see the new note.

You could create an App Shortcut for Notes (Float on Top) command from the Keyboard Preferences. Something like ⌃-⌥-F. Then you wouldn't have to switch to the Notes app and manually turn off the Float on Top option. Also, you can integrate this keyboard shortcut with the excellent BetterTouchTool, mentioned above, by linking the App Shortcut that you just created to a Mouse or Trackpad gesture.
