Long story short.....
- Upgraded Big Sur to Monterey (2019 MBP, i9/32GB/1TB)
- FCPX ran very slow on Monterey - editing was fine, but loading an event or project took ages!
- Used a CCC clone to restore my Big Sur backup (taken just before upgrading)
- Updated Big Sur to latest version

Everything is working fine, but the Notes app crashes a few seconds after opening and closes itself. Never had this before......

I've tried:
- Signing out of iCloud on the MBP and signing back in again.
- Verified iCloud link is working by creating a calendar entry on my phone, then open Calendar on my MBP and the event is there. Tried teh same Vice Versa - all OK.
- Unchecked the Notes app in the iCloud settings so it doesn't sync.
- Re-checked the Notes app in iCloud settings.
- Removed all system caches etc

None of the above has worked. Notes opens for a few seconds, then just closes with a massage asking if I want to send the crash report to Apple etc.

Any ideas?

Reinstalled the OS - does the exact same thing. Notes still crashes - any ideas?

does it crash if you don’t sync with iCloud? If not, I bet that one or more of your notes got corrupted, which is causing it to crash when syncing

Went into my iCloud settings on the Mac and set it to not sync with iCloud and it still does exactly the same :(

Yes...I've been having problems with Notes also. Have to restart to get it to behave. So I'm not the only one; will have to wait for the next update I guess. Mine hasn't been 'crashing' in the traditional sense; just not working! My suspicion is that it has something to do with QuickNote. Just a guess though.

Is this something covered by Applecare - ie, phone support for software??

It's just finding the time to sit with them on the phone - they will most likely just tell me to create another profile (which I don't really want to do!)

Standard advice for this sort of thing is find the .plist file, delete it, reboot and the mac will make another one.
It's typical of this sort of behaviour that the .plist file has become damaged somehow.
This looks like a pretty good reference to help

THANK YOU!!!

I went into my iCloud settings and unticked 'Notes' temporarily.
I then went to ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes - however this was not present.
Although I then found ~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.apple.notes - and ended up backing up and deleting this folder completely.

Restarted MscOS, and Notes opened and didnt crash!!
I then re-enabled the iCloud sync and all is working fine again!

Thanks for you help - much appreciated ;)
