Notes in iOS 11 compatible with El Capitan?

Hi All

At this stage, do we know if the enhanced iOS 11 notes app will be compatible with El Capitan?

Back in 2015 I was running Yosemite and decided not to upgrade to El Capitan as I felt the lack of improvements did not warrant a clean install. However I did upgrade the phone to iOS 9, and from this point onwards new notes/folders made on the Mac/iPhone was not reflected on the other device. In the end, I was ultimately forced into upgrading to El Capitan just so Notes could continue working properly.

To prevent the same repeat as two years ago, does anyone know at this stage if iOS 11 requires High Sierra for Notes? If so, I would rather in advance sign up to Evernote now and migrate the notes.

You would rather buy into Evernote than upgrade your mac for free? What's the story? The software updates have improved security features.
What if evernote needs a more recent OS at somepoint? The end result is you'll have to update your operating system. Do it now and reap the benefits!

Agreed. Updates are free and only take an hour max to complete. You don't have to do a clean install for every update.

I'm waiting for a few more betas to try out ios11, but as is I use notes heavily for work I'm a bit reluctant, as you can imagine : )
 
A question about compatibility.

I kind of assumed that the core of iCloud apps such as notes would be compatible accross the currently supported operating system (I.e. current and previous 2 versions of Mac OS) minus any new features.
However after reading this I guess this is not the case (and the previous OS are only partially supported) so it got me wondering what is and isn't compatible between Mac and iOS on different OS versions?

Is notes between iOS 10 and El Capitan compatible? And I will also be interested to see if it is compatible with iOS 11. Are there any other iCloud apps with compatibility issues between any of the following setup?


* iMac running El Capitan (which can't upgrade any further as the system requirements are just cut off. Early 2009 iMac.)

* IPad running iOS 9.3.5 (soon to be updated to iOS 10 and possibly iOS 11 public beta later)

* MacBook which I can update to Sierra / High Sierra
 
Short answer, yes.
Long answer: if you do basic modifications such as typing words and adding a few photos then both are fine. There is not much change between El Capitan and Sierra regarding notes, and I test this with Sierra.

I am glad that I have joined the glorious anti upgrading army from now on, even though I am using iOS 11.

Shirasaki, many thanks for the update! Have you created new (or deleted) notes on Sierra (not High Sierra 10.13) and has it reflected on your phone (iOS 11)? Likewise, have you tried deleting or creating notes on the iPhone and again does it reflect on the Mac? Lastly, please create a new note on the iPhone and add features that are new to notes (i.e. tables etc.) and let me know how the note shows on your Mac.

It seems the core foundations of Notes was completely changed in 2015 which would explain the requirement to upgrade to iOS 9 & El Capitan and the syncing issues).

Created new notes in Sierra IS indeed reflected on iOS 11. Same thing happens the other way around.
Deleting notes IS reflected on both sides.
However, created table cannot be viewed on Sierra. But inline sketches are viewable.
 
I also have some issues with this. I'm currently running EL Capitan because my company can't give me the damn okay to move to Sierra or even High Sierra for that matter. That being said,

When i create a new stretch in iOS11 in ipad, it will show up on my El Capitan notes but when i create an inline sketch, it will so junk data on EL capitan.
 
I'm finding ISO11 scanned documents do not show in OS X 10.12.6
Unfortunately my old MBPro can't upgrade any higher than 10.12 El Capitan.
Guess I'll have to workaround it for important stuff
darn. I wish it would just sync the note and create a PNG or PDF or something instead of nothing.
