So I have an iPhone 6 with iOS9. I recently got a mac with OS X 10.10 installed (I can't update to 10.11 for work-related reasons).

I want to sync Notes with my mac, but it appears that iCloud syncing of notes can't be done unless I update to 10.11. Is this correct? Notes show up on iCloud.com, but not in the Notes app on my mac. I am signed in (actually had to create an @icloud.com address - I believe this was a Notes syncing requirement prior to 10.11)

Also, I have a ton of Local Notes on my iPhone (starting from before iCloud existed). I would like to copy/transfer these Notes to the Notes app on the Mac (mostly as a backup). How do I do this since I can't sync with iCloud without updating to 10.11? I have over 7,000 Notes, so manually copying/pasting them into the iCloud folder on the phone is not really an option, and they would only be accessible from the iCloud.com web app anyway since I'm on Yosemite 10.10 and not El Capitan. My goal is to have them show up in the Notes app on the mac

Thanks

I think the notes synchronise through your email. I had to so it once when changing phone and it was a bizarre way it all worked. Or it might have sync'd through google and then to mail.

Well I have Notes under a yahoo email, and a gmail email. But I have A TON that are just "Local Notes" on my iPhone, and I can't seem to figure out how to move them to iCloud or any of the other two emails, nor sync them with my computer through iTunes.

Had a quick look, and I had to use gmail to sync them. I use gmail for the calendar between the iPhone, mac and PC (outlook) anyway.

Set up a gmail account if you don't have one.

On the gmail account settings on the iPhone, set it to enable notes sync.
That should sync your local notes to gmail (from what I remember).
Then same on you new iPhone.

On the mac mail under accounts, you may need to add a google account if you don't have one set up on your mac. Select the google/gmail account, and tick notes. That will also sync your notes to the mac and you can do wha you like with them there too.

From what I remember you can't do it through itunes, it all had to be through the mac mail for some reason, or gmail.

I have gmail set up on my iPhone under Notes, and I have those same gmail Notes showing up on my Mac. The problem is I have a lot of Notes that are "Local Notes" or "On this iPhone." There is no simple way to copy/move those notes over to the gmail account in Notes on the phone

Sorry can't remember exactly what I done to move them across, but it was possible, unless IO9 (to IOS8) changed the way it works.
