Nothing from my library showing up on Apple TV

I have my apple TV connected to the network, the library which is being served up by my iMac to the network shows up in the apple tv under Settings>Computers - it's name is listed there, with what appears to be a 'chain link' graphic (?). But none of the stuff from the library, music, movies etc. shows up on the apple tv.

It's worked before, but I recently reset everything, I must have done something wrong. I turned off Syncing, because I don't want anything copied to the apple tv hard drive, I just want to stream things from the imac, as I've done before. Is there a way I might have turned off streaming?

Go into iTunes, share your library out. AppleTV will discover it.

Are you serious?
1. Open iTunes
2. Edit > Preferences
3. Sharing tab > Click on Share my library on my local network
The default is: Share entire library

Dead serious. I did that. It doesn't show up on ATV.

Try this

In itunes, under devices, click on Apple TV
In the summary tab, click custom sync
Make sure the box that says "Show only the synced items on my Apple TV" is unchecked
Go through the other tabs and uncheck everything so it does not put this on the Apple TV hard drive

Then click sync. All your items in itunes should then show up on your Apple TV but not be on the hard drive.
