Nothing says Christmas like black

Ok so I spent 4 hours working on a design for a poster to advertise our events going on for the Christmas season and ended up with a beautiful poster that looked great. ...

Then two days later I'm at the printer and I see a poster with all the same info on it but is totally different but not in a good way. it had a solid black background white or cream arial and times typeface just looked like crud. They guy made it on powerpoint and printed them out because he thought my design wasn't good.

Here's my problem my boss and her boss approved my design and are happy with it. The guy that did the other poster is on level with my boss so he basically does whatever he want's to do so he put his poster up all over campus. I talked to my boss and she says that she can't do anything about it.


What should I do?

What should you do about it? Nothing.

Suck it up and move on because such is the life of a designer where clients will choose your worst comp, tell you to change the typeface to Arial, and let their family and friends feed back on your work.

Design is not art, the best piece often doesn't win. Who you know is often more important than what you know. Keep that good poster you did for your portfolio and look forward to your next job.

A big part, a huge part, of getting on in this field is taking one for the team without complaining about it. Better to be the one who keeps a smile on their face and keeps on keeping on.

tell you the truth..you can complain and complain, but at the end of the day, if this guy is leveled to your boss and your boss already said said there nothing to be done, as hard as it seems I would let it go. Are they not paying you for your work? Or are they taking credit for your work? doesn't seem like it. At the end of the day they paid for what they got, if theyd on;t want to use it well, that's up to them.. wouldn't that be like nike getting mad at you and sueing you or something because you bought their shoes but you are not wearing them? just my thoughts

TY ... I appreciate your input. It just blindsided me to have it happen in my office and I guess I hadn't thought of it like they are just another client like the other work I do.

I'll give him his due, in isolation that combination potentially sounds more elegant than the usual festive medley of red/white/gold/silver.

Console yourself with the fact we all KNOW he's an idiot
